The Subaru EyeSight uses stereo color cameras that are mounted near the rearview mirror to continuously monitor and identify other vehicles, obstacles, moving lanes, and other objects around.

The EyeSight driver assistance technology is a package of six functions including pre-collision braking, pre-collision throttle management, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane sway warning, and lead vehicle alert.

When a potential collision is detected, the pre-collision braking system will warn the driver with visual and auditory signals. If the driver does not respond, the system can use automatic braking to avoid or mitigate the impact of the collision.

The pre-collision throttle management system prevents the vehicle from accelerating in the wrong direction, potentially causing an accident. If the system detects an obstacle in front of the vehicle and the driver continues to accelerate instead of reversing, it will alert the driver and reduce engine power to prevent a collision.

The adaptive cruise control is a familiar feature in many modern cars today. Its purpose is to keep the vehicle moving at a certain speed and distance from the vehicle in front of it.

The lead vehicle alert system on Subaru is a useful feature when driving in urban traffic with multiple traffic lights. Specifically, this system alerts the driver with light signals and sounds when the vehicles in front start moving again after the traffic light turns green.

Subaru’s EyeSight technology showcased at the Singapore Auto Show 2018 is one of the key technologies and an attractive feature package that the Japanese automaker wants to offer to customers seeking the highest standards of safety, performance, and comfort in cars.

According to the Japan Traffic Accident Analysis Center, the EyeSight system has had an impressive effect in reducing accidents. A survey of Subaru vehicles in Japan from 2010 to 2014 showed that the EyeSight system helped reduce 61% of accidents for vehicles equipped with this feature.

Currently, the EyeSight technology is being introduced at the Singapore Auto Show 2018 through the debut of the Subaru Outback and XV. After Singapore, customers in Malaysia will also have the opportunity to own the advanced EyeSight system when the Outback is introduced to the market in the second quarter of this year.
