In the early 1990s, Dream began production in Thailand. The first batches of Dream were imported to our country around 1992, with prices ranging from 8 to 10 gold bars. Because the car had a high value – it was the Vietnamese people’s entire fortune at that time, Dream was often carefully preserved by its owners and only used on important occasions.

The car quickly became admired and seen as a symbol of wealth and power.

Around 1994 – 1995, Dream had two versions: pink sticker (1993) and fire sticker (1994). The pink sticker car was priced at around 25 – 27 million VND (equivalent to 4.5 million VND/gold bar) and the fire sticker car was priced at around 28 – 30 million VND. At that time, gold did not have a fixed price, so sellers mainly demanded cash payment.

By 1996, the value of the car was about 6 gold bars (gold price was 5.9 million VND/tael). The value of the car at this time was equivalent to a large piece of land in the suburbs.

In 1997, this series of cars became less “hot”, with a price range of around 30 million VND. The reason was that in 1996, Honda was granted permission to invest in Vietnam. The company’s first move was to immediately set up a production line for Dream II.

In December 1997, the first Super Dream model of Honda Vietnam was born, with a lower price than the Thai Dream, making it accessible to many people. However, due to the preference for foreign products and the superior quality of imported cars, Dream Thái continued to be favored by many buyers until 2000.

Later, under the competitive pressure from domestic products, Thai Dream had to reduce prices. In 2001, the price of Thai Dream decreased from 28 – 29 million VND/car to 26 million VND, while Vietnamese Dream was sold at 24.5 million VND.

In 2013, faced with declining sales, Honda Vietnam decided to redesign the Dream with a nostalgic style and many details that reminded people of the Angel model from SYM. This change in style, stepping back, and popularizing a legend made Dream lose its appeal.

Honda Dream is the name in the Thai market. In some other Southeast Asian countries, the bike has different names such as Astrea in Indonesia, EX5 Dream in Malaysia. This is a 4-stroke, 100cc engine bike, with the advantages of engine durability and a classic design.

Unfortunately, the more improvements made, the more the legendary Dream of the past loses its charm after nearly a quarter of a century since its appearance.
