BMW Group has become the latest car manufacturer to adopt the North American Charging Standard (NACS) developed by Tesla.
BMW Group announced on October 17th that they will adopt Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) for their electric models starting in 2025. The German car manufacturer said this move is part of their efforts to provide the best services to customers.

According to the agreement, from the beginning of 2025, BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce models sold in the North American market will be able to use Tesla’s Supercharger stations through an adapter. The company also said that upcoming models will be equipped with this charging port.
In addition, the three above-mentioned brand models will be updated with software to add the feature of finding Tesla charging stations. Payment options are also directly integrated into each brand’s own application.

Sebastian Mackensen, Chairman of BMW, said: “With six BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce electric models currently available in the US market and many upcoming models, our top priority is to ensure that customers can easily access the most fast and reliable charging system.”
Similarly, the CEO of BMW North America commented: “This agreement demonstrates our long-term and continuous efforts to expand charging options for customers.”
As a pioneer and leader in the electric vehicle market, Tesla has built an extensive network of charging stations called Superchargers. Thanks to this system, Tesla is always a top priority for users when considering buying an electric car. The NACS charging port standards of this system are considered simple, convenient, and less prone to failure.

In addition to using Tesla’s charging port, BMW recently announced that they have teamed up with General Motors, Mercedes-Benz, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, and Stellantis to establish a shared charging station network in North America. This alliance expects to build about 30,000 charging stations, equipped with both NACS and CCS plugs.
