With a price of just about $50,000 USD, the new Toyota Land Cruiser is priced $30,000 USD lower than the previous Land Cruiser 2021 model sold in the US. This is a significant price reduction and the new Land Cruiser will officially arrive at dealerships in the US in early next year.
In terms of exterior design, the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser follows the footsteps of the 2024 Lexus GX with its boxy shape and some design highlights inspired by vintage styles. The design varies between different variants. Among them, the base Land Cruiser 1958 variant has round LED headlights as well as a rectangular grille with the word “TOYOTA”.
Next is the Land Cruiser variant that uses rectangular headlights, reminiscent of the FJ62 model introduced in the mid-1980s. This mid-range Land Cruiser variant also replaces the traditional fog lights with RIGID units “with selectable colors”, probably offering yellow and white color options like on the Tacoma Trailhunter.
Customers looking for a tougher and more rugged vehicle can choose the Land Cruiser First Edition. This premium edition will be produced in limited quantities of only 5,000 units and features a front skid plate, roof rack, sports-style round headlights, mud flaps, and more.
All variants of the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser come standard with 18-inch wheels, with the Land Cruiser variant offering optional 20-inch wheels. It is worth noting that the Land Cruiser and First Editions have wider wheel arches.
The car will be available in 7 different exterior colors, including Black, Ice Cap, Wind Chill Pearl, Underground, Meteor Shower, Trail Dust, and Heritage Blue. Additionally, users can also choose two-tone exterior options.
In terms of dimensions, the SUV has an overall length of 4,920 mm, a width of 2,139 mm, and a height of 1,859 mm with a wheelbase of 2,850 mm. That means it is longer than the Land Rover Defender by 163 mm despite having a shorter wheelbase by 173 mm.
Moving inside, the base Land Cruiser 1958 variant has a 5-seat interior, fabric seats, push-button start, and an 8-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia system. Users will also get heated and power-adjustable front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a 6-speaker audio system. Additionally, the car is equipped with a smart wireless phone charger.
In the Land Cruiser variant, users will receive more equipment including SofTex front seats with heating and ventilation capabilities with power adjustment. They are paired with a larger 12.3-inch infotainment system and a 10-speaker audio system.
Users who value more luxury can choose the optional premium package that adds heated and ventilated leather seats, a HUD, a premium JBL 14-speaker audio system, digital rearview mirror, and a sunroof.
The Land Cruiser 2024 comes standard with the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 driver assist system, which includes dynamic radar cruise control at all speeds, lane tracing assist, and pre-collision warning with pedestrian detection. They are paired with automatic headlights, traffic sign recognition, driver attention monitoring, and lane departure warning with lane keeping assist. Additionally, there are blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert features.
While the Lexus GX is equipped with a twin-turbocharged 3.4L V6 engine, providing a maximum power of 349 horsepower and a maximum torque of 649 Nm, the US version of the Land Cruiser will only be available with the i-Force Max hybrid drivetrain. First introduced on the 2024 Tacoma, this drivetrain includes a 2.4L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, a 1.87 kWh battery pack, and an 8-speed automatic transmission with an integrated electric motor. The hybrid drivetrain on the Land Cruiser 2024 offers a combined power output of 326 horsepower and a maximum torque of 630 Nm.
The 2024 Land Cruiser US variant has a ground clearance of 221 mm. All variants come with features such as Hill Start Assist Control, Crawl Control, and Multi-Terrain Select and Multi-Terrain Monitor for the Land Cruiser and First Editions.
Similar to the Tacoma, Tundra, Sequoia, and Land Cruiser 2024 models, the Land Cruiser 2024 is developed on the TNGA-F body-on-frame platform. Toyota says it is sturdier than the previous Land Cruiser 200 thanks to “high-strength steel with laser welds and blanks”.
