The high-performance duo of the second-generation Mercedes-Benz GLC has been officially unveiled. In the new generation, the GLC 43 4MATIC and GLC 63 SE Performance have replaced the V6 and V8 engines with inline-4 engines. The good news is that both versions have more power than their predecessors thanks to advanced technologies from F1 racing cars.
If you are familiar with the latest sedan and wagon models from Mercedes-AMG C-Class, you will know these new drivetrain systems. The reason is that the GLC and C-Class are built on the same platform, with only differences in height and ground clearance.
On the Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 2024, a 2.0L inline-4 engine with mild-hybrid technology is used, replacing the V6 turbocharged engine. The previous V6 engine on the GLC 43 produced a maximum power of 385 horsepower, while the new GLC 43 model has a power output of up to 416 horsepower, not to mention an additional 13 horsepower thanks to EQ Boost technology.
The power is transmitted to all four wheels through a 9-speed automatic transmission. The car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds, faster than the previous 4.9 seconds, although the torque only reaches 500 Nm, a decrease of 20 Nm compared to the previous version.
The GLC 63 S E Performance also uses the M139L inline-4 engine, but with a larger turbocharger, producing a maximum power of 469 horsepower and a peak torque of 545 Nm, which cannot be compared with the 503 horsepower and 700 Nm of the previous V8 engine on the AMG GLC 63 S. However, the new AMG GLC 63 is equipped with the P3 hybrid system, increasing the power to 671 horsepower and a peak torque of 1,020 Nm.
With this power, the GLC 63 S E Performance can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds, 0.3 seconds faster than the previous GLC 63 with the V8 engine. With a small 6.1 kWh battery, this version can travel a distance of 12 km using only electric energy.
Both models have the characteristic AMG grille with vertical bars, sporty air intakes, and chrome trim details. At the rear, both models have a diffuser system, but the GLC 63 has a more aggressive design. The 63 version is equipped with a trapezoidal exhaust, while the 43 version has a round exhaust.
Inside, both models have AMG seats wrapped in Artico/Microcut AMG microfiber with special graphics and materials. Users can choose leather and Nappa leather options with the AMG logo embossed on the front headrest. AMG Performance seats are also available as an option.
The prices of the high-performance duo GLC 43 4MATIC and GLC 63 SE Performance have not been announced yet.
