On 13/10/2023, Green and Smart Mobility Joint Stock Company (GSM) has facilitated the import of 150 VinFast electric cars into the Laotian market to develop the Green SM electric taxi service. This is the first step in GSM’s plan to enter foreign markets.
Accordingly, GSM plans to launch the electric taxi service in Laos in 2023, with a fleet of up to 1,000 VF 5 Plus and VF e34 cars.
Initially, GSM will develop the electric taxi service and gradually expand to a full ecosystem of services, including electric car rental and value-added services such as package car booking, tourist car booking, and personalized car booking.
In addition to the self-operated activities, in the future, GSM Laos will also implement B2B activities such as selling and renting VinFast electric cars, similar to the model being implemented in Vietnam.
With diverse approaches, GSM will gradually promote the habit of using green, smart, and environmentally friendly vehicles in daily life in Laos, providing local residents with a premium, noise-free, and emission-free travel experience. Through the Green SM taxi service, GSM will also contribute to promoting the pride of Vietnam – VinFast in the regional market.
Laos is a neighboring country to Vietnam, with supportive policies and encouragement for the use of electric vehicles in government agencies as well as among the public. The national target is to have 30% of the total circulating vehicles be electric cars and 200 public charging stations by 2030.
According to data from the Laotian Ministry of Finance and Transportation, as of the end of 2022, there were 1,326 registered electric cars in circulation. In the first four months of 2023 alone, an additional 526 electric cars have been imported to Laos. Currently, charging station systems in Laos are also being invested in and built, with 17 stations already in operation.
Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh, CEO of GSM, said: “Laos is a geographically close country with many similarities to Vietnam and is also very open to electric vehicles, making it an excellent choice for GSM to initiate its international expansion strategy. After Laos, GSM will continue to expand its operations to other countries to quickly realize the mission of a greener future for humanity. In addition, GSM aims to become a bridge for popularizing Vietnamese electric cars globally.”
GSM was established and launched in April 2023 in Vietnam as the world’s first multi-platform green transportation model with a 100% electric vehicle fleet. In just 6 months, GSM has achieved record growth in scale and speed, carrying out over 6 million passenger transportation trips, highly regarded by consumers and transportation entities.
According to the plan, by the end of 2023, Green SM will be present in 27 out of 63 provinces and cities in Vietnam, with the scale of the fleet increasing to 30,000 electric taxis and over 90,000 electric motorcycles in the near future.
Parallel to the Vietnamese territory, GSM is also striving to expand into the region and the world to become a globally-scaled ride-hailing startup, starting with the ASEAN market.
