The 2024 Toyota Hilux GR Sport II edition is highly desirable among many Vietnamese people, but few have the opportunity to own one through official distribution channels.

Toyota started producing its first GR edition long-haul car in 2019, but its popularity and reliability have been increasing. This has prompted the Japanese car manufacturer to incorporate the GR edition into many other models, just like BMW and Mercedes-Benz do with their M and AMG variants. Apart from improving performance, the GR Sport is also considered an exterior upgrade option for the standard version.

One of those models is the newly launched Toyota Hilux GR Sport 2024, featuring a more eye-catching appearance to increase competitiveness against its rival, the Ford Ranger Raptor. The full name of the new edition is Hilux GR Sport II, and it will be available in the UK market starting from 2024. Customers will only have the option of a double cab.

Essentially, the exterior of the 2024 Hilux GR Sport II is significantly more aggressive, with an increased ride height of 20mm compared to the standard Hilux, allowing for increased ground clearance. In addition, the approach angle has been improved from 29 to 30 degrees.

Of note are the striking 17-inch black alloy wheels, which provide a symmetrical and sporty overall look. The suspension system has also been enhanced, with improved responsiveness and larger front brakes, replacing the rear drum brakes with disc brakes.

However, the most noticeable change is the increased width of 140mm and 150mm for the front and rear track respectively, which improves stability for the pickup truck and provides a wider and more solid stance. The GR Sport II is much more appealing in terms of overall exterior, combining both sportiness and muscularity.

The front grille of the 2024 Hilux GR Sport II is in the shape of a black G letter, with the GR emblem attached. A series of other details are also black-painted, such as the side steps, door handles, and rear bumper. In contrast, the brake calipers and springs are red.

The interior upgrades of the Hilux GR Sport II 2024 are minimal, featuring sport seats with the GR Sport logo on the headrests, upholstered in suede and synthetic leather. The seat belts and gear lever are red, creating a distinctive look compared to the standard 2024 Toyota Hilux. The Japanese car manufacturer has also upgraded the pedals with aluminum and their 8-inch Smart Connect+ multimedia system.

Unfortunately, there are no performance changes that make the Toyota Hilux GR Sport II 2024 more impressive. Under the hood, it still has a 2.8-liter turbocharged diesel engine, combined with a 6-speed automatic transmission, and produces 201 horsepower. This is the engine used for the standard Hilux in the UK market, so if the GR edition is sold in Vietnam, it may still use the previous 147-horsepower engine.

In Vietnam, Toyota Hilux is only officially distributed in a single 4×2 version with a starting price of 852 million VND. Despite its unimpressive sales and equipment, many consumers still choose this pickup truck for its durability, especially for off-road conditions in mountainous areas.
