Mitsubishi commits that the company will continue to introduce more electric car models in the near future to provide users in the Southeast Asia region with more options.
According to information published by OtoDriver magazine from Indonesia, Mitsubishi is planning to launch 2 new electric car models in early 2024. This source also confirms that one of the above-mentioned models is the electric version of the popular MPV Xpander.
Irwan Kuncoro – Sales and Marketing Director of Mitsubishi Indonesia revealed: “Next year, we plan to launch a commercial electric car and a travel electric car. They will be revealed at the Gaikindo International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2024”.
Representatives from Mitsubishi Indonesia also stated that the new electric car models will be locally assembled to take advantage of the government’s electric car incentives in Indonesia.
Because electric cars require a lot of time to develop, therefore, the Xpander EV launched at GIIAS 2024 is likely to be just a preview prototype rather than a commercial version.
In addition, there is a possibility that this is just the Xpander hybrid version. This version is estimated by Nikkei Asia to be launched in early 2024.
The second rumored car to be launched at GIIAS 2024 is the “mini Xpander” Mitsubishi eK X EV. The fact that this car model is also being tested shows that this possibility is very high. After being launched, Mitsubishi eK X EV will directly compete with Wuling Air EV, a higher-end version of Wuling HongGuang MiniEV already available in Vietnam.
