According to Carscoops, Toyota is collaborating with Suzuki to develop a small electric crossover.
This model is speculated to be launched in 2025 and is the commercial version of the Toyota bZ Small Crossover Concept.
According to the Japanese magazine Best Car, the aforementioned small electric crossover is being developed by Toyota primarily to serve the domestic market, but it is not excluded that the car will be made available globally, including in Europe. The report also states that Suzuki was chosen as the ideal partner for collaboration due to their expertise in producing small cars.
bZ Small Crossover is among the 15 concept models of Toyota and Lexus unveiled at a special event in December 2021. At that time, Toyota representatives stated that the bZ Small Crossover is designed with a focus on the European and Japanese markets. The company did not disclose specific technical specifications of the commercial version of the bZ Small Crossover, except confirming that the car will be developed based on the eTNGA architecture and have a target energy consumption of 125 Wh/km. In terms of size, this model is longer than the Toyota Aygo X (3,700 mm) but smaller than the Yaris Cross (4,180 mm).
The launch of Toyota’s new crossover coincides with the expected launch time of Suzuki eVX. However, these two models are not related as the eVX has a length of up to 4,300 mm (169.3 inches). However, it is very possible that in the future, Suzuki will leverage the good cooperative relationship between the two companies to launch a new line of cars based on the bZ Small Crossover.
Direct competitors of the commercial version of the Toyota bZ Small Crossover include the Hyundai Casper (already launched) and the VW ID.1 (expected to be unveiled in 2026).
