In 2006, the first Maybach arrived in Vietnam, causing a buzz among the wealthy in the country. Since then, a series of imported versions have been brought into the country, such as the 57S, 62S, and even the limited edition 62S Zeppelin – only 100 units produced worldwide.
Recently, Sơn Tùng Auto – a prestigious luxury car dealer in Hanoi – has put a 2008 Maybach 62S up for sale. Although the selling price and distance the car has traveled have not been disclosed, it has been found that this luxury car has accumulated over 200,000 km. The current selling price is said to be no less than 10 billion VND – more expensive than a Mercedes-Maybach S 450 2023, which is priced at 8.199 billion VND.
Despite having a large number of about 20 units in Vietnam and being 15 years old, the Maybach 62S is still highly regarded for the level of luxury it offers to its owners, even though its features and conveniences are not as good as the current Maybach models.
In 2008, the car’s front end attracted attention with its chrome-plated grille, featuring multiple vertical slats. The front bumper is divided into three air vents, with the middle one featuring a wind-splitter to reduce monotony. The two side air vents integrate small fog lights.
At the time in 2008, the car’s lighting system featured Bi-Xenon headlights, which was one of the most advanced features brought to this luxury car by the German brand.
The Maybach 62S measures 5,728 x 1,980 x 1,557 mm in length, width, and height, respectively, with a wheelbase of 3,827 mm – bigger than the 3,395 mm of the Mercedes-Maybach S 680, the highest-end version currently available from the official distributor in Vietnam.
The car’s rear end stands out with its elongated taillights, a style seen in many modern cars today. The taillights are simple, with four stacked LED strips for position lights. The exhaust system consists of a single exhaust pipe with a square-shaped outlet, adding a muscular touch to the car’s appearance.
The special feature of the Maybach 62S’ wheels is their multi-spoke design, which sets them apart from other cars currently present in Vietnam. The wheels are painted with a coppery gold color, combined with a black background inside. The wheel size is 20 inches for both the front and rear axles.
The car’s interior features a predominantly black color scheme, embellished with white contrast stitching. After more than a decade of use, the details have all decayed. The leather seats show many wrinkles. The dashboard design is not overly luxurious, with fewer chrome details. The air conditioning vents are rectangular in a classic style.
Instead of choosing high-quality wood materials, the car’s owner has opted for carbon fiber to cover many interior details, such as the door handles, the fixed cabinet between the rear seats, the center control panel, the rear armrest, and the partition area with an entertainment screen.
Above the car’s interior roof, three meticulously crafted clocks have been added, featuring the Maybach logo. These clocks display the speed, time, and temperature from left to right.
The highlight of the Maybach 62S is its rear cabin, designed with a business style, including two independent seats for the owner and a fixed partition. Both seats have multi-directional power adjustment, but lack the massage function found in today’s cars. A separate sunroof is made for this cabin. Nevertheless, these are still more modern features compared to other luxury cars from the same era.
Between the two seats is a compartment with storage compartments and a DVD player cabinet. Below it, there used to be a mobile phone and a system of buttons, but they have all been removed as they are not suitable for today’s usage. The car owner can communicate with the driver through a separate intercom system. The car also has a wine refrigerator.
The Maybach 62S is equipped with a twin-turbocharged V12 engine with a displacement of 6.0L, producing a maximum power of 604 horsepower and a maximum torque of 1,000 Nm, combined with a 5-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive.
Thanks to its power that is comparable to some supercars, this nearly 2.9-ton sedan can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds before reaching a top speed of 250 km/h.
