Toyota is preparing to heat up the 7-seater SUV segment by launching the next-generation Fortuner. Although the Japanese automaker has not yet confirmed the official launch date of the new Fortuner, all signs indicate that the car will be unveiled around 2024.

The highlight of the new-generation Fortuner will focus on changes in the exterior design. Taking inspiration from the new-generation Tacoma pickup truck, the 2024 Toyota Fortuner promises to apply a completely fresh design language compared to the current version. The front of the car stands out with a large, powerful grille. The car will also have new LED headlights and daytime running lights, with an overall muscular and sturdy design.

Based on a series of “unofficial” design sketches, it can be seen that the new-generation Toyota Fortuner possesses a highly anticipated design. The leaked prototypes of the 2024 Fortuner have provided some notable features, including a wider skid plate and expanded air intake in the bumper area, contributing to a more aggressive look for this 7-seater SUV.

Another important upgrade of the new-generation Fortuner is that the car will be transferred to Toyota’s TNGA-F platform, which is also the platform for the Tundra, Land Cruiser, and Lexus LX. With this platform transfer, the new Fortuner will have larger dimensions and improved proportions, bringing spacious and comfortable interior space. We also hope that the SUV will have a sunroof, along with many other premium features such as ADAS.

Under the hood, the 2024 Fortuner will be converted to an electrified powertrain. This powertrain will be a combination of a 2.8L 4-cylinder turbo-diesel engine with hybrid technology. Details related to performance have not been disclosed yet. Toyota estimates that adding mild-hybrid technology will help save about 10% more fuel compared to the non-hybrid variant. Based on the stringent emission standards currently being applied globally, an electrified powertrain is a necessary requirement for the Fortuner.
