At the launch event of the new generation Land Cruiser Prado in August, Toyota unexpectedly revealed that it will soon introduce a new SUV, considered as the mini Toyota Land Cruiser.

Until now, the Japanese automaker has just revealed that mysterious model named Toyota Land Hopper. This model is expected to be officially launched at the Japan Mobility Show 2023 exhibition from October 26 to November 5.

Currently, Toyota has also filed a trademark for Land Hopper. However, this name might only be used for some markets like Japan. In other markets, the vehicle might have different names.

The car will be developed based on the Compact Cruiser EV concept car launched in 2021. Land Hopper will be positioned in the SUV segment with the expected size similar to the Corolla Cross. This small wild SUV will likely have dimensions of 4,490 x 1,800 x 1,850 mm (length x width x height) respectively.

It is highly likely that Toyota Land Hopper will use a separate frame to optimize its performance on difficult terrains.

Based on the teaser image shown at the Land Cruiser Prado launch event, this new car has a square and rugged design, similar to the Compact Cruiser EV concept car launched in 2021.

According to some news sources, Toyota Land Hopper will have various engine options. The car might use a 4-cylinder engine with a displacement of 1.8L and a hybrid powertrain with a 2.0L gasoline engine, similar to the Toyota Corolla Cross.

The car might also share a 4-cylinder engine with a displacement of 2.0L and a hybrid powertrain with a 2.5L gasoline engine, similar to the Toyota RAV4.

It is highly likely that the car will also be equipped with a hybrid powertrain with a 4-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine with a displacement of 1.5L. In the future, a fully electric version might be added to the lineup.

Toyota Land Hopper is expected to be officially available for sale in mid-2024, with prices ranging from 3 to 3.8 million yen (equivalent to 488.5 – 619 million VND).
