KIA has recently confirmed the prices of their EV5, as well as the battery information for the electric SUV. Specifically, the EV5 will be priced from 50 million won (equivalent to $38,000) in South Korea, and will increase to 57 million won (approximately $43,800) for the long-range version.
The battery for the compact Kia SUV, which will be sold in South Korea and international markets, will have a capacity of 82 kWh, larger than the current 77.4 kWh battery in the EV6, allowing the EV5 to have a maximum range of over 600 km.
Another detail revealed about the charging system is that it will be based on a 400V system instead of the high-voltage 800V system used in other HMG electric vehicles. With an 800V system, you can use a super-fast charger with a power of up to 350 kW, but Kia has decided to use the 400V system to reduce costs.
Although Kia initially stated that the EV5 would be a model exclusively for the Chinese market and may be sold in other countries in the future. However, Kia CEO Song Ho-seong recently stated: “We will also sell the EV5 in South Korea and international markets” and also pointed out that “the EV5 is struggling with various marketing efforts to eliminate the image of the EV5 being an SUV exclusively for China,” he added.
Previously, in March 2023, the Kia EV5 concept was introduced in China. Kia stated that the company applied the “opposites united” design philosophy to the EV5, blending visual contrasts to create a unique and futuristic design. In addition to its boxy design and unique 21-inch rims, the compact all-electric crossover also features a “Digital Tiger Face” at the front, reminiscent of the brand’s distinctive tiger-nose grille.
The sides of the car make an impression with sculpted lines that give it a sporty and dynamic look. The rear stands out with slim LED taillights.
Moving inside, the interior of the car still has a concept feel. The “suicidal” Rolls-Royce-style doors make it easy for users to move into the car, where there are four individual seats that can swivel outwards (similar to the production version of the EV9).
Additionally, the car is equipped with a large panoramic sunroof to blur the boundary between the interior and the outside. Meanwhile, the interior color scheme is designed to bring a calming atmosphere to the occupants. On the other hand, a large panoramic touchscreen is designed to impress tech-savvy users.
Kia also stated that the company has used environmentally-friendly materials in the cabin of the EV5. In particular, the company has said “NO” to any type of animal leather used in the car.
