Japan Mobility Show 2023 has created a sensation with many new and unique features, from car models to luxury, sports, and economy concept cars. For example, recently, Honda introduced a new sports car model in the form of a concept, named Prelude.
Unlike Nissan, Honda Prelude will use the hybrid HEV powertrain. However, the Japanese company did not provide specific information about this engine. Nevertheless, users can expect impressive performance from this car, even better than the “older siblings” NSX and S2000.
Although it is still in the concept form, the appearance of the Honda Prelude is highly regarded, with a design similar to the Civic Coupe or Accord Coupe. In other words, Honda may equip this sports car model with a front-wheel drive system. The front of the car is quite similar to the Civic but has eliminated the traditional grille.
The body lines of the car are not too sharp. Honda has equipped the car with 20-inch multi-spoke wheels with a sporty dark black finish, accompanied by high-performance Brembo brakes. The rear of the car has added small air spoilers to embellish the car. The door handles are hidden in the body, following the current trend.
The rearview mirror covers and many other exterior details are made of carbon materials to optimize the weight of the car. This is also the approach that Nissan applies to the new “super supercar” to reduce the weight of the car, as they have increased significantly due to the battery pack.
The interior has not been revealed, but based on the overall trend of Honda’s car models, it is likely to have a modern, simple, and youthful style.
Honda’s CEO, Mr. Toshihiro Mibe, said in a press conference about the car that the name “Prelude” is not the new sports car model of his company, but in fact, it is the foundation for high-performance Honda cars in the future.
“This car will be the ‘opening chapter’ for our future car models, inheriting the ‘driving pleasure’ in the fully electric future and embodying Honda’s unchanging sports spirit,” he shared.
Whether the Honda sports car concept will be put into commercial production or not, many people still have confidence in this car model for the future, especially when Honda wants to increase its competitiveness in the sports car market – where the Nissan GT-R currently dominates with a series of other competitors such as the Toyota 86, Subaru BRZ, or Mazda MX-5.
