Recently, the US car market aggregation and analysis website Edmunds conducted a study on the actual charging speed of electric cars and found that electric cars from the Hyundai – Kia conglomerate have faster maximum charging speeds than their competitors.

According to Edmunds’ analysis of 43 electric car models in the US market in recent years, the website measures the charging capability of electric cars by dividing the charging power (kW) by the energy consumption rate (kWh/100 miles), then multiplying by 100 to give the result in miles per hour.

Specifically, the survey results show that the Hyundai Ioniq 6 Limited RWD is the fastest charging model with 1,397 km/hour.

Notably, among the top 10 models with the fastest charging speed, there are 6 representatives from the Hyundai – Kia conglomerate, including the Kia EV6 RWD with 1,238 km/hour (ranked 2nd); Hyundai Ioniq 6 AWD with 1,230 km/hour (ranked 3rd); Kia EV6 GT Line with 1,091 km/hour (ranked 5th); Hyundai Ioniq 5 AWD with 1,083 km/hour (ranked 6th); and Genesis Electrified G80 with 853 km/hour (ranked 8th).

The reason why Hyundai – Kia’s cars have better charging speeds is because their electric vehicles are equipped with both 400V and 800V charging hardware, while many other electric car models only use 400V charging to save costs and reduce selling prices to make it easier for customers to afford.

Other models in the top 10 also have fast charging speeds, including the Porsche Taycan 4S with a charging speed of 1,110 km/hour (ranked 4th); Porsche Taycan GTS with a charging speed of 940 km/hour (ranked 9th); Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+ with a charging speed of 954 km/hour (ranked 7th); and Tesla Model 3 ranked 10th with a charging speed of 912 km/hour.
