At the ongoing Japan Mobility Show 2023 in Tokyo, Lexus has captured attention by showcasing the striking LF-ZC Concept, a next-generation all-electric sedan set to be released in the market by 2026.

LF-ZC, which stands for Lexus Future Zero-Emission Catalyst, is developed on a new electric vehicle platform with a modular design, dividing the car body into three main parts: front, center, and rear. Lexus said this design allows LF-ZC to be structurally independent, enabling quick integration of new and improved battery types.

The car will be launched with a battery featuring a prismatic structure that Lexus claims will increase range and reduce weight. In fact, Lexus says the LF-ZC aims to achieve double the driving range compared to conventional battery-electric vehicles.

The LF-ZC has a similar size to the BMW i4 and Tesla Model 3, with a length of 4,750 mm, width of 1,880 mm, and height of 1,390 mm, with a wheelbase of 2,890 mm. Lexus is aiming for a drag coefficient below 0.2 for the LF-ZC.

In terms of exterior design, the overall style of the LF-ZC combines that of a sports sedan with an estate. The car applies Lexus’ ‘Provocative Simplicity’ design language.

Lexus has not provided the technical specifications for the electric drivetrain of the concept car, but note that it features the brand’s Direct4 all-wheel drive system and steer-by-wire technology similar to the Lexus RZ.

The interior space is spacious and luxurious with a panoramic roof, and the futuristic steering wheel. The interior design is similar to the Toyota FT-Se concept also showcased at the exhibition. At the front seats, there is a large touchscreen with entertainment functions.

An advanced voice recognition system called ‘Butler’ is also developed for the AI-powered car. This system uses machine learning to customize software and works alongside the new Arene operating system to adjust the car’s functions to suit the driver. Most of the cabin of the concept car is made of bamboo.
