The mild-hybrid 2.8L turbocharged engine will be equipped on the Toyota Fortuner and Hilux, reducing fuel consumption by 10% while also reducing engine noise and emissions rates.

According to Drive, the 2024 Toyota Fortuner could be the next model from the Japanese brand to be equipped with hybrid technology. This version is expected to be available in Australia as early as mid-next year, coinciding with the release of the Land Cruiser Prado.

Prior to that, in June 2023, a Toyota executive revealed that hybrid engines will soon be available on both the Hilux and Fortuner. According to some sources, the hybrid system installed on these two models includes a 2.8L turbocharged diesel engine, combined with an electric motor that generates a maximum power of 204 horsepower and a peak torque of 500 Nm. The manufacturer stated that the new hybrid engine helps reduce fuel consumption by 10% while also reducing engine noise and emissions rates. The carmaker also confirmed that the new technology will not affect the performance and off-road capabilities of the new Hilux and Fortuner.

Currently, the Fortuner is distributed in our country with a total of 7 versions, priced from 1,026 to 1,470 billion VND. Meanwhile, after a long absence, the Toyota Hilux has returned to the Vietnamese market with only one 2.4L 4×2 AT version, accompanied by a price of 852 million VND. Dealerships are also offering the Hilux Adventure version with a 2.8L engine, but this version has not been included on the official website of Toyota Vietnam.
