Alongside the Sorento 2024 facelift, Kia has introduced its latest electric concept models at the 2023 LA Auto Show, the compact SUV EV3 and the sedan EV4. Both concept models can be considered as a preview for the upcoming commercial versions.
The EV3 is a compact SUV, positioned below the mid-size EV5. Meanwhile, the EV4 is advertised as a four-door sedan but with a coupe-like rear end, continuing the trend in the segment. Both concept models pay special attention to the interior, with a focus on natural materials combined with efforts to reduce carbon emissions.
According to Kia, the EV3 is like a downsized version of the EV9. Although the EV3 will share the design language with its larger sibling, this concept model still retains its uniqueness. For example, the front and sides of the car use more gentle curves instead of the straight, sharp lines like the EV9.
Inside, the interior of the EV3 concept is designed to enhance “happiness emotions”. As a result, you will experience gentle lighting according to your mood, convenient seating, and a minimalist touch.
In addition, the seats are made from natural fibers with a strong and waste-free structure compared to carbon fibers. Meanwhile, the center control cluster of the EV3 concept is “grown” from mushroom roots through a process called biomanufacturing.
For the EV4, this sedan model has a design with clear SUV influences instead of the coupe style that the brand is advertising. The car has many sharp lines.
The interior of the EV4 follows the path laid out by the EV3, incorporating new materials into its structure. Instead of using mushroom roots, the control cluster of the EV4 uses fabric made from sisal fibers – a fast-growing plant that requires fewer resources in the cultivation process. Other areas in the Concept EV4’s interior are made from 100% recycled cotton, naturally dyed with madder root and walnut husk.
In addition, the EV4 is equipped with Mind Mode settings that allow the car to adjust the air conditioning and ambient lighting systems. For example, when you need to relax, the lights will dim and choose soft color tones to create a more comfortable atmosphere.
Kia has confirmed that the commercial version of the EV3 will be launched in 2024, while the commercial version of the EV4 will debut a little later.
