Targeting young urban commuters, Yamaha has introduced the new NEO’S electric scooter to the Vietnamese market today, December 30, 2022. Previously, this electric scooter had been produced and exported to the European market by Yamaha Motor Vietnam.
Yamaha NEO’S is priced at 50 million VND in Vietnam for 3 color versions including Black/White/Blue. The estimated delivery time is in February 2023.
Inheriting many features from the previous generation NEO’S 50cc scooter, based on the Jin-ki Kanno EV concept MOTOROiD design platform, Yamaha NEO’S possesses a unique, impressive and distinct appearance compared to other electric scooter models currently available in Vietnam.
According to Yamaha, the vertical-oriented ergonomic design of the NEO’S scooter embraces the rider. Meanwhile, the horizontal-oriented mechanical design embraces the battery and suspension system.
In terms of convenience, the Yamaha NEO’S electric scooter is equipped with many modern features such as LED lighting system, smart key, LCD screen, integrated phone charging compartment, or Y-Connect application for connecting the scooter and phone.
The scooter uses the second-generation YIPU electric motor designed exclusively by Yamaha, providing smooth operation. The electric motor, rear brake, and MCU control system are mounted on the rear frame (rear swingarm) of the scooter. NEO’S uses a brushless electric motor, air-cooled, direct-drive system for smooth and efficient power transmission. However, the performance of the Yamaha NEO’S is still quite limited, only equivalent to a 50cc gasoline engine scooter.
The maximum power that Yamaha NEO’S achieves is 2.3 kW, while the maximum torque is 138.3 Nm at a speed range of 40 rpm. The scooter takes 8 hours to fully charge and can travel a distance of 72 km on a single charge at a speed of 30 km/h.
In Vietnam, Yamaha NEO’S will be a competitor to other electric scooter models such as VinFast Klara, VinFast Vento, Yadea G5, or Pega S.
