The three-pointed star brand has just officially unveiled the 2024 Mercedes E-Class model with a completely new interior. Accordingly, the new E-Class will be offered with the option of an MBUX Superscreen display inspired by the huge MBUX Hyperscreen. Mercedes didn’t go into detail, but the car has a fairly large entertainment system as well as a display for front passengers. Behind the steering wheel is a floating digital instrument cluster with Classic and Sport display interfaces.
Talking about screens, third-party apps can be directly installed instead of having to be connected through Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. To take advantage of this capability, Mercedes is launching an App Store that will have a “gradually expanding catalogue of apps.”
At launch, there will be many types of apps including Angry Birds, TikTok, Zoom, and Webex. One of these apps can be used with the car’s new video and selfie camera system and is accompanied by the MBUX Superscreen display. Owners can use the camera to take pictures and record videos while the car is parked.
To prevent distracted driving, the E-Class has a “visual shield” that uses a camera and “advanced filtering concept to ensure that the driver does not see the content on the screen.” In fact, the system will monitor the driver’s eye movements and determine if they are looking at the passenger screen for too long. If this happens, “the brightness of the passenger screen will be reduced, allowing passengers to continue viewing content that the driver cannot see.”
Aside from the display, the E-Class will be equipped with an active interior ambient lighting system and a Burmester 4D surround sound system with 17 speakers that allows owners to “experience music with all three senses.”
Completing the technological features are the Energizing Comfort and Energizing Coach functions, as well as 5G technology for fast data transmission.
Mercedes didn’t say much about the rest of the interior, but we can see the new steering wheel and minimalist center console. Buyers will also find “many ways to combine interior colors,” from “light beige combined with Space Grey, including a luxurious pearl effect, to Tonka Brown and cool gray.”
Mercedes said the E-Class will offer Nappa leather seats with diamond pattern stitching and new Dark Ash wood trim accents. Additionally, the car also has metal accents and the Manufaktur Piano Lacquer Flowing Lines trim package like on the S-Class.
