As mentioned earlier, Volkswagen is planning to bring the Teramont X model to Vietnam for distribution. Shortly after, Volkswagen dealers in Vietnam have started accepting deposits for this model.
At the same time, sales consultants at the dealership also announced the expected selling price of the Teramont X in Vietnam, starting from VND 2.168 billion. If this selling price is accurate, the Volkswagen Teramont X will be significantly cheaper than its sibling, the Teramont, which is currently being sold in Vietnam for VND 2.499 billion.
Unlike the Teramont, the Vietnam-spec Volkswagen Teramont X will not be imported fully from Europe but from China, just like the upcoming large MPV Viloran. Similar to the Viloran, the Teramont X is a vehicle produced by the SAIC-Volkswagen joint venture in China.
The Volkswagen Teramont X is basically a coupe SUV version of the Teramont. This model can be seen as a more affordable alternative to the BMW X6 or the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe.
Developed on Volkswagen’s familiar MQB platform, the Teramont X has dimensions of 4,917 x 1,989 x 1,729 mm (length x width x height) and a wheelbase of 2,980 mm. Compared to the Volkswagen Teramont, it is shorter by 180 mm and lower by 48 mm, while the width and wheelbase remain almost unchanged.
In addition to slight adjustments in size, the Volkswagen Teramont X also features a more stylish and sporty exterior design compared to the Teramont. The specific equipment of this model in Vietnam has not yet been announced.
In China, the Volkswagen Teramont X is equipped with LED matrix headlights, LED daytime running lights in the shape of an “L,” integrated LED logo, 18 – 21 inch alloy wheels, and LED taillights. The high-end version of the car also has additional black accents as exterior highlights.
Inside the Volkswagen Teramont X, there is a 5-seat interior instead of the 7-seat layout found in the Teramont. The rear cargo space of the car has a volume of 540 liters or 1,719 liters when the rear seats are folded.
The interior of the car in the Chinese market features notable equipment such as leather seats, 12-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, 3-spoke steering wheel with function buttons, auto-dimming rearview mirror, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, power tailgate with foot sensor, head-up display, automatic air conditioning, decorative ambient lighting, wireless phone charging, and electronic parking brake.
Underneath the hood of this coupe SUV are two engine options. The first is a 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder gasoline engine with a maximum power of 220 horsepower and a peak torque of 350 Nm. The second is a 2.5L V6 turbocharged gasoline engine, producing a maximum power of 299 horsepower and a peak torque of 500 Nm. Both engines are paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel drive system.
Finally, the car is equipped with modern safety features such as adaptive cruise control, 360-degree camera, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, automated parking assist, lane-keeping assist, lane-change assist, attention assist, front/rear parking sensors, and door-open collision warning.
It is expected that the Volkswagen Teramont X will be officially launched in the Vietnamese market next year, competing with the Hyundai Palisade and Ford Explorer.
