Xiaomi has recently been reported to have applied to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China for a sales permit for its first electric car, the SU7. Now, official images of this model have been officially revealed.
According to information on the website of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China, Xiaomi SU7 has dimensions of 4,997 x 1,963 mm and a wheelbase of 3,000 mm. With these dimensions, the car is positioned in the mid-sized and large sedans segment in China.
Looking at the overall design, the exterior of SU7 borrows many details from the Porsche Taycan and McLaren models. Typical examples include the headlights, front bumper, flat door handles, slim sides, and muscular wheel arches.
The front of the car stands out with droplet-shaped headlights divided into 2 layers by LED daytime running lights. The front bumper and central air scoop are designed large, decorated with chrome trim and triangle-shaped air vents at two corners.
Depending on the version, SU7 will be equipped with 19 or 20-inch 5-spoke wheels. This “legs” design also reminds many people of the Lamborghini Huracan Evo.
At the rear of the car, there is a horizontal strip of taillights, accompanied by an active spoiler that can be raised to increase downforce when the car is running at high speeds.
A special point in the design of this car is the camera mounted on the B-pillar. Therefore, it is highly likely that Xiaomi SU7 will have the feature of opening the car by facial recognition.
The interior information has not been revealed by the company. However, based on some test drive images, it can be seen that the cabin of the SU7 is equipped with many modern conveniences. These include a small digital instrument cluster, a large touchscreen in the center, and HyperOS operating system developed by Xiaomi.
The car is powered by two drivetrains, including a 294.9 horsepower rear-wheel drive (RWD) and a 664.5 horsepower all-wheel drive (AWD). The RWD version weighs 1,980 kg, with a top speed of 210 km/h, and the AWD version weighs 2,205 kg, with a top speed of 265 km/h.
Depending on the version, the car will use BYD’s LFP battery or CATL’s ternary (NMC) battery. The operating range of this model after fully charged has not been revealed.
The SU7 is expected to be sold in the Chinese market with 3 versions, SU7, SU7 Pro, and SU7 Max. Mass production of the cars will start by the end of this year, and the first units are expected to be delivered in February 2024. The prices of the cars have not been disclosed.
