The small motorcycle market in Vietnam is receiving a lot of attention as Yamaha unexpectedly announced the compact off-road model PG-1. The rugged and dusty appearance is the impressive highlight of the PG-1, while Honda has not made any reaction yet, private importing units have quickly brought in the Honda CrossCub 110.
The price offered by import units in Hanoi for the Honda CrossCub model is 70 million VND. This is double the price of the Yamaha PG-1, easily understood because it is imported completely from Japan and the reputation of the Honda Cub model.
Unlike the Yamaha PG-1, the Honda model uses cast wheels and off-road tires. The front of the vehicle is evaluated as personal as there are no protective plastic details, unlike the classic Cub model that made a splash in Vietnam in the 1990s.
The headlight is wrapped in a crash frame, the handlebars are completely visible with a traditional mechanical clock. The vehicle’s suspension is a telescopic tube with a rubber dust cover, clearly showing its “off-road” nature. The front brake is a disc brake with ABS, a system not equipped on the Yamaha PG-1. The rear brake is still a popular drum type.
The fuel tank is a 4.3 liter capacity, smaller than the fuel tank on the Yamaha PG-1. The Honda Cross Cub 110 is equipped with a single-cylinder SOHC engine, 2 valves, air-cooled, with a capacity of 109cc. This engine delivers a maximum power of 8 horsepower at 7,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 8.5 Nm at 5,500 rpm, along with a 4-speed gearbox.
The bike aims for good performance on rough terrains, along with unique appearance, showing differentiation. Especially with small engine capacity, the bike does not consume fuel, nor requires too much maintenance cost, operating in a similar way to existing scooter models on the market.
Compared to the Honda CT125, which some dealers imported earlier with a price of nearly 200 million, the price of 70 million for the CrossCub is quite affordable. But compared to the newly launched Yamaha PG-1, the Honda model does not have the advantage in terms of price, making it difficult to attract a large number of players.
