Racing AKA, supported by Mitsubishi Motors Vietnam, is the first professional off-road racing team in Vietnam to participate in the Asia Cross Country Rally (AXCR), a national rally race for Asian countries, within the racing system of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), held from August 10th to 16th, 2019 in Thailand and Myanmar.
This is the first time that AKA, together with Triton, has participated in a major Asian competition, with the aim of bringing beautiful and impressive racing performances as well as gaining further experience in upcoming domestic and international races to the off-road racing community in Vietnam.
Stepping into an international playground, with just 2 weeks of preparation to meet the FIA standards, AKA’s Triton has been upgraded with suspension system, snorkels, front bumper, cabin roll cage, racing seats, and some communication equipment to compete against experienced teams from Thailand and Japan, among others.
The racing teams had to overcome narrow terrains with numerous mud puddles covering more than half of the wheels, slippery gravel and rocks, deep rivers, heavy rain, and limited visibility when driving through dense forests, on super narrow roads just wide enough for a pickup truck with swamps on both sides.
During the races, many teams encountered technical issues, such as tire punctures, bent rims, as well as more serious damages like broken shocks, broken axle shafts, vehicle body damages, or getting stuck in the mud and needing rescue.
Meanwhile, Racing AKA has made their best efforts to complete all 6 races with their Mitsubishi Triton intact, achieving an impressive overall ranking of 17th out of 34 professional racing teams from various countries. The first Vietnamese rally team with Triton also received the “Special Award” – the team with the most impressive performance – on the prestigious podium of the Asia Cross Country Rally 2019.
This international achievement, worthy of pride, partly demonstrates the passion, seriousness, and skills of the racing team, as well as provides a solid foundation for Racing AKA to set even greater ambitions for future domestic and international races.
