The 2019 Monterey Car Week in California, USA not only dazzles participants with numerous supercars from around the world, but also sets many new world records. The latest record was witnessed at the RM Sotheby’s auction on Friday when the most expensive McLaren in history, the McLaren F1 LM-Specification, made an appearance.
This extremely rare supercar has an exact price of $19,805,000 – slightly lower than the organizer’s estimate of $21-23 million but still set a new record. The high price of the car is no coincidence as this F1 belongs to the most special category that McLaren has ever built.
First of all, the LM-Specification configuration on the F1 was only completed by McLaren in 2 versions to simulate the pure racing F1 LM – a series that was originally developed to commemorate the legendary F1 GTR’s victory at Le Mans.
Compared to the regular F1, these LM-Specification models have additional body kits to enhance downforce, such as front wheel arch vents and large rear wings. The car also breaks free from the limited shackles of the BMW V12 6.1L engine, increasing the total output to 680 horsepower, with a maximum engine speed of up to 8,500 rpm.
Additionally, let’s talk a little more about the F1 LM-Specification car auctioned this time. The car started off as a regular F1 with a Midnight Blue Peark exterior and black interior. The second owner requested McLaren to modify it to LM specifications in 1999 with a new metallic gray color and a cream leather interior.
The previous owner of the car, New Zealand collector Andrew Bagnall, cherished the car for the past 12 years. The mileage of the car is currently only 21,488 km.
