Volkswagen’s new luxury car pair to be introduced in Vietnam this month, with delivery before Tet.

Both of the new Volkswagen car models share the common feature of being fully imported from China.

The Vietnamese automobile market is preparing to welcome two new names from the German brand Volkswagen. Accordingly, Volkswagen plans to introduce two new models in Vietnam in December 2023, including the Viloran and Teramont X.

The common feature of the two new Volkswagen models is that they are both fully imported from China. Meanwhile, the Volkswagen models currently sold in Vietnam are fully imported from the United States, Europe, or India. In addition, both the Viloran and Teramont X are produced by the SAIC-Volkswagen joint venture in China.

In Vietnam, the Volkswagen Viloran will have two versions: Premium and Luxury. The expected prices for these two versions are 1,989 billion VND and 2,188 billion VND, respectively. Meanwhile, the Volkswagen Teramont X is quoted by dealers at 2,168 billion VND. All dealers have started to accept deposits for these two new models.

Developed on the familiar MQB platform of Volkswagen, the Viloran has dimensions of 5,346 x 1,976 x 1,781 mm (length x width x height) and a wheelbase of 3,180 mm. Compared to the Kia Carnival, the Viloran is 191 mm longer, 19 mm narrower, 6 mm taller, and has a slightly longer wheelbase by more than 90 mm.

Inside this large MPV is a spacious 3-row interior with a configuration of 2+2+3 seats. In particular, the middle row has 2 business seats that can be adjusted to a maximum recline angle of 70 degrees, integrated with calf support and equipped with heating, cooling, and massage functions. In addition, these two seats also come with armrests, cup holders, phone trays, charging ports, storage compartments, and separate control switches.

The interior of the Volkswagen Viloran is wrapped in leather and adorned with wood trim, giving it a luxurious look. The interior equipment is also quite rich with power-adjustable/heated front seats, a 10.3-inch LCD digital instrument cluster, a 12-inch touchscreen center display, a compact electronic gear lever, wireless phone charging, electronic parking brake, sunroof, and Harman Kardon audio system.

According to a sales consultant at the dealership, the Volkswagen Viloran in Vietnam will use a 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine with a maximum power of 220 horsepower and a peak torque of 350 Nm. The engine will be paired with a 7-speed wet-clutch DSG automatic transmission.

In addition, the car is equipped with modern safety features such as adaptive cruise control, reverse assist, 360-degree camera, lane keeping assist, emergency automatic braking, blind-spot warning, and tire pressure monitoring.

The Volkswagen Viloran in Vietnam will be available in 5 colors: red, black, white, brown, and silver. The delivery time will be before Tet holiday.

Volkswagen Teramont X

Volkswagen Teramont X is essentially the coupe version of the Teramont SUV currently sold in Vietnam. The car is also developed on the MQB platform and has dimensions of 4,917 x 1,989 x 1,729 mm (length x width x height) and a wheelbase of 2,980 mm.

Compared to its sibling Teramont, the Volkswagen Teramont X features a more impressive and sportier exterior design. The equipment for this model in Vietnam has not been announced yet. Meanwhile, in China, the Volkswagen Teramont X features matrix LED headlights, L-shaped LED daytime running lights, integrated LED logo, alloy wheels with diameters ranging from 18 to 21 inches, and LED taillights.

Inside, the Volkswagen Teramont X has a 5-seat interior instead of 7 seats like the Teramont. Inside the car, there are features such as leather seats, 12-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, 3-spoke steering wheel with integrated function buttons, auto-dimming rearview mirror, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 12-inch touchscreen center display, Harman Kardon 12-speaker audio system, power tailgate with foot sensor, head-up display for the driver, automatic air conditioning, ambient lighting, wireless phone charging, and electronic parking brake.

It is not clear which engine the Volkswagen Teramont X will use in Vietnam. In China, the car has two engine options. The first is a 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine with a maximum power of 220 horsepower and a peak torque of 350 Nm. The second is a V6 twin-turbocharged petrol engine with a displacement of 2.5L, producing a maximum power of 299 horsepower and a peak torque of 500 Nm. Both engines are paired with a 7-speed wet-clutch DSG automatic transmission and a 4Motion all-wheel drive system.

The safety equipment of the car is quite comprehensive, including adaptive cruise control, 360-degree camera, front collision warning with automatic emergency braking, automated parking assist, lane keeping assist, driver attention warning, front/rear parking sensors, and door-open collision warning.

The dealership promises to deliver the car before Tet holiday, similar to the Viloran. In addition, Volkswagen Vietnam plans to switch to importing the Teramont from China instead of the United States. This could help reduce the Volkswagen Teramont price compared to the current price of 2.499 billion VND and make it more accessible to customers.
