According to a post on the Lexus RX forum, Toyota has recently filed a trademark for a new model at the European Union Intellectual Property Office.

The information reveals that this model is named HZ, with 3 variants: HZ300e, HZ450e, and HZ550e. The car is likely to bear the Lexus logo since that’s a naming convention often seen on luxury models of this brand.

Like many competing rivals, Lexus is making moves towards electrification. They have plans to offer an electric option on all of their models by 2030 and will become a fully electric brand by 2035. Earlier this year, Lexus filed trademark applications for the names TZ450e and TZ550e for a larger, 3-row electric SUV that will sit above the RZ. With the HZ, this model is likely to slot below the RZ in Lexus’ product lineup.

The naming convention of HZ suggests that this model will have at least 3 versions, with 3 different powertrain configurations. The current Lexus RZ450e is equipped with a dual-motor electric system producing 309 horsepower and 435 Nm of torque, and it’s safe to assume that the HZ450e will have the same powertrain. Thus, it can be speculated that the HZ300e will be equipped with a single electric motor, while the HZ550e will have a power output of up to 400 horsepower.

Last month, Lexus showcased a preview of the LF-ZC — a midsize SUV coupe that rivals the Tesla Model 3 and BMW i4 — at the 2023 Tokyo Auto Show. The company stated that this model will be manufactured using the same die-casting method as Tesla and will utilize a new prism-shaped battery technology, which significantly enhances the driving range while reducing weight.
