SVI Engineering – a company specializing in manufacturing security and military vehicles based in South Africa has just launched a new armored vehicle based on the Toyota Land Cruiser J70 platform, named SVI Max 3 Six-Wheeler. The vehicle is currently on display at the Africa Aerospace and Defence Exhibition.
As the name suggests, the SVI Max 3 Six-Wheeler is an armored vehicle with 6 wheels. To achieve this modification, SVI completely changed the chassis structure of the Land Cruiser by reinforcing the undercarriage and adding a third axle. In addition, both rear axles are equipped with disc brakes and upgraded suspension systems, as well as an additional rear anti-roll bar.
The original appearance of the Land Cruiser has completely disappeared, instead replaced by a rugged, square-shaped pickup truck design made from large interconnected steel plates. SVI has also upgraded the vehicle’s protection level to BR7 to withstand bullet and mine explosions. In South Africa, owning a vehicle with this level of protection requires a special permit from the government. SVI also offers the Max 3 Six-Wheeler with different configurations such as single cab, double cab, and an SUV variant called Troop Carrier/Workmate.
Furthermore, the military version of the SVI Max 3 Six-Wheeler is equipped with advanced radar systems, machine guns, and cannons to be ready for armed conflicts.
Underneath the steel armor of the SVI Max 3 Six-Wheeler is a 4.5-liter V8 turbodiesel engine with 202 horsepower and 430Nm of torque. The maximum speed achieved is 140km/h.
