Toyota vehicles are known for their durability, and a Camry with nearly 500,000 km on the odometer is a specific example of that.

When it comes to a car with about 500,000 km on the odometer and an engine problem, many people often think of buying a new car instead of repairing it. However, the owner of the 2009 Toyota Camry in the article is one of the few who choose to repair their “old car” by taking it to The Car Care Nut repair shop.

In a Youtube video, The Car Care Nut technician expressed surprise at the longevity of the 14-year-old Camry. Aside from regular maintenance and repair of some miscellaneous items, the car is practically in its original condition. Everything about the car shows that it has been well taken care of. The engine, electrical system, and chassis are all in perfect condition.

However, if the owner takes such meticulous care of the vehicle, what happened to the engine that caused the car to catch fire? Does it mean the engine can only be used for a maximum of 500,000 km?

According to The Car Care Nut, the issue of oil burning is not due to the engine’s lifespan but rather the aging of the pistons and excessive carbon buildup. The 2AZ-FE 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine from Toyota often has issues with oil burning, and the company has had to recall Camry models from 2007 to 2011 to address the problem.

The solution in the case of the 2009 Camry involved replacing the old pistons, and that’s exactly what the owner did. If you want the car to be in the best condition, the engine block should be replaced. However, installing a new engine block in a 14-year-old car is not a cost-effective option, as the cost could be approximately equivalent to the price of a new Special Edition Nightshade Camry.
