Mitsubishi Triton PHEV is an alternative solution for those who do not like to use diesel engines.
According to Carsales, Mitsubishi is developing a hybrid electric version of the Triton. The company states that the engine used in the Triton is not related to the Outlander PHEV. The SUV model from the same brand has a transverse hybrid system, while the Triton uses a longitudinal engine, similar to Range Rover and Jeep.
Kaoru Sawase, a senior engineer at Mitsubishi, said that the Triton will be equipped with a P2 PHEV system with an electric motor located between the gasoline engine and the transmission.
Regarding the all-electric version of the Mitsubishi Triton, Sawase said that this model will not be launched for at least 5 years. This engineer explained that the current electric engines of the company can provide high power but have limitations when it comes to continuously generating stable power.
To run off-road, especially when facing tough hilly terrains, a vehicle needs strong and stable power. However, it can be argued that this is a limitation of Mitsubishi alone, as companies such as Ford, Tesla, Chevrolet, RAM, and Rivian have all proven that electric pickup trucks can operate just as well as traditional ones.
In Vietnam, Mitsubishi Triton is currently distributed in 3 versions, with prices ranging from 650 to 905 million VND.
Mitsubishi Triton is currently the second best-selling model in the pickup truck segment in the country. In the first 9 months of 2023, this model achieved cumulative sales of 1,566 units. Meanwhile, the “Pickup Truck King” Ford Ranger sold 11,235 units, holding the number one position.
