After the first leaked images, the all-new Mazda2 has finally been officially launched in the Japanese market under the name Demio. According to the plan, the new Mazda2 will start to debut in the global market, including North America, in the fourth quarter of this year.

From the images of Demio in Japan, it can be seen that the new Mazda2 is greatly influenced by the design of the Hazumi Concept model, which was first introduced at the Geneva Motor Show 2014 in March. From the headlights, grille to the body, everything is similar to the Mazda Hazumi Concept.

The new Mazda2 applies the “Kodo” design language with a sharp angular shape similar to its larger brothers, the Mazda3 and Mazda6 2014. The wheelbase of the Mazda2 has been increased by 80 mm to 2,570 mm. The overall length has also been increased by 160 mm to 4,060 mm. The height has increased by 25 mm to 1,500 mm, while the width remains the same at 1,695 mm.

The interior space of the new Mazda2 is designed in a simple and neat style, similar to its larger siblings. The biggest difference lies in the color and interior accessories. According to Mazda, the interior of the new Mazda2 is designed in a modern and user-friendly style.

One of the highlights is the touch screen, which is designed like a tablet on the dashboard. The driver can control the features on the screen through a knob near the handbrake lever. In addition, Mazda also provides an optional heads-up display for the new Mazda2.

For now, Mazda has not yet released much information about the performance specifications of the new Mazda2. Only known, the 2015 Mazda2 is equipped with comprehensive SkyActiv technology, from the body structure, chassis, transmission to the engine.

The new Mazda2 in the Japanese market has 3 different engine versions. The first is two SkyActiv-G gasoline engines with capacities of 1.3 and 1.5 liters. The second is the SkyActiv-D diesel engine with a capacity of 1.5 liters. All are combined with a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission.

The new Mazda2 will be assembled at a factory in Hofu, Japan. After that, the car will be sold in the Japanese market from autumn this year. Direct competitors of the new Mazda2 are Honda Jazz, Toyota Yaris, and Ford Fiesta.
