The Toyota FT-86 or Subaru BRZ is a collaboration between Toyota and Subaru. These are the sports cars that any speed enthusiast dreams of driving.

If Nissan is proud of its high-speed supercar GT-R and Mitsubishi has the Lancer Evolution, then Toyota also has its own sports car called the 86. Especially when this sports car was officially distributed in Vietnam from 2012 under the name FT-86, 10 years earlier than the Honda Civic Type-R.

At the time of its announcement in 2012, the Toyota FT-86 was officially distributed and was priced at 1.65 billion Vietnamese dong, equivalent to the Mercedes-Benz GLK, a luxury model at that time. However, anyone willing to spend such a large amount of money to own a Toyota FT-86 is undoubtedly someone with a great passion for JDM sports cars.

After more than 10 years of operation in Vietnam, with more than 50,000 kilometers on the road, the Toyota FT-86 appears in the used car market with a selling price of nearly 800 million Vietnamese dong. Compared to the current generation of 86 cars, the design of this 2012 model has become somewhat outdated. This is also understandable as in 2011, the trend of designing sports cars was very different from now.

However, in terms of technology, the Toyota FT-86 possesses many advanced technologies. In addition to ABS, the active safety equipment on the car also includes an emergency brake force assist system (BA), an electronic brake force distribution system (EBD), a vehicle stability control system (VSC), and a traction control system (TRC).

Being a sports car, the vehicle stability control system has up to 5 different modes for the driver to choose from depending on the operating conditions and driving style. The car also has 7 airbags to protect the driver and front passengers.

Under the hood is a 2.0-liter Boxer engine developed by Subaru and Toyota. The engine produces 197 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 205 Nm in the rpm range of 6,400 – 6,600 rpm.

Combined with a 6-speed automatic transmission. In pursuit of speed, the interior of the 11-year-old sports car is quite simple but intuitive and easy to operate. All seats are upholstered in genuine leather and Alcantara leather, with the driver’s seat designed to hug and fit the driver, helping to secure the best driving position when cornering.

With 700 million Vietnamese dong, you can completely own versatile 7-seater models or compact B-segment SUVs that are currently attracting a lot of attention from the Vietnamese people. But to experience the true style of a JDM sports car, there are few names that are more ideal than the Toyota FT-86.
