What Does the “Fully Modified” Toyota Hilux of Vietnam’s Largest Supercar Collector Have to Offer?
Being a passionate truck customizer, a businessman from Tay Nguyen has collected a large number of used Toyota Hilux trucks and brought them back for customization to serve the tourism business of Dak Lak province.
Appearing among a fleet of luxurious SUVs owned by this businessman at Dray Nur Waterfall, the white Toyota Hilux pickup truck with the license plate 51D-710.80 attracted the attention of tourists due to its heavily modified appearance.
Based on the information we have gathered, the pickup trucks owned by Vietnam’s largest supercar collector are all equipped with snorkels. However, the Toyota Hilux in this article has been fully modified, including a front bumper guard, an electric winch, and a heavy-duty truck bed frame to serve the transportation of tourists.
This Toyota Hilux pickup truck belongs to the sixth generation, which was produced from 1997 to 2005. The appeal of this truck lies in the fact that it is the last generation of Hilux trucks produced in Japan. Specifically, in 2005, Toyota ceased production of Hilux trucks for the Japanese market and focused on production in Thailand. In this version, a small design update was made in 1997, and some engine options were added. Later, Toyota introduced an upgraded version of the Hilux pickup truck in 2001.
Compared to the stock version of the sixth-generation Hilux, this Toyota Hilux pickup truck has undergone several modifications, including a protruding front bumper guard that resembles armored vehicles. The front bumper guard and the side step bar are made by ARB and cost nearly VND 30 million.
Furthermore, a pair of ARB Intensity round headlights, which cost over VND 30 million, are also installed on this modified Hilux. Lastly, an electric winch from Warn, the XD9000 model with a pulling capacity of up to 4.1 tons, is also equipped, costing nearly VND 30 million. Considering only the cost of front-end modifications, the owner has spent VND 100 million.
As one of the preferred pickup trucks for off-road enthusiasts, this sixth-generation Toyota Hilux pickup truck has been fully modified by Vietnam’s largest supercar collector. Lastly, a set of bed bars was installed.
The Toyota Hilux sixth-generation comes with various engine options depending on the year. For example, from 1998 to 2001, there was a 2.0L 1RZ-E 8-valve SOHC I4 engine for the Hilux ‘Workmate’ model in Australia, which only had a 4×2 drivetrain. From 1998 to 1999, the Hilux featured a 3.0L 5L diesel I4 engine producing up to 97 horsepower, available in 4×2 and 4×4 drivetrains.
From 1995 to 2004, the sixth-generation Toyota Hilux pickup trucks had different engine options, including a 2.4L 2RZ-FE 16-valve DOHC I4 engine with 142 horsepower, a 2.7L 3RZ-FE 16-valve DOHC I4 engine with 150 horsepower, and a 3.4L 5VZ-FE 24-valve DOHC V6 engine with 190 horsepower.
