In early April 2014, the Datsun brand, a division of the Nissan Motor Corporation, officially introduced the all-new on-Do compact and affordable car in the Russian market. At the time, the price of Datsun on-Do had not yet been announced. Many rumors claimed that the Datsun on-Do would have a selling price below 400,000 Rubles, equivalent to 11,340 USD.
Now, Nissan has started the production of the Datsun on-Do in Russia and has announced the specific prices. The family sedan developed exclusively for the Russian market will have a starting price of 329,000 Rubles, equivalent to 9,580 USD. The Datsun on-Do is currently being assembled at the Togliatti factory in Russia as part of the cooperation agreement between the Renault-Nissan alliance and AvtoVAZ.
Over 5,000 employees from Japan will be involved in the production line of this small 4-door, 5-seat sedan. Although bearing the Datsun brand, the on-Do is based on the Russian Lada Granta.
“Datsun will help the Russian people turn their dream of owning a foreign car into reality. The Datsun brand guarantees absolute confidence and durable products for Russian customers,” said Vincent Cobee, Global Head of Datsun and a member of the AvtoVAZ Board of Directors.
Datsun on-Do
Designed to be suitable for the road conditions and weather in Russia, the Datsun on-Do is the result of cooperation between an international team of engineers from Russia, Japan, and other countries. Meanwhile, the Nissan design center in Atsugi, Japan is responsible for shaping the look of the Datsun on-Do.
According to Datsun, the name “on-Do” is a combination of the Japanese and Russian languages. In Russian, “on” means “he” and emphasizes the “power, performance, and masculine design” of the car. The word “DO” in Japanese means “road” and “motion”.
The Datsun on-Do is a small car with 4 doors and 5 seats. The basic dimensions of the car include a length of 4,337 mm, a width of 1,700 mm, and a height of 1,500 mm. The trunk of the car has a capacity of 530 liters. The “heart” of the Datsun on-Do is a 1.6-liter petrol engine with a maximum power of 87 horsepower.
