Few people know that the first car owned by current U.S. President Barack Obama – the Ford Granada – cost only $900.

This shows that the current leader of the United States had a very difficult life before being elected.

The first African-American President of the United States attended community college and law school partly on scholarships. His wife did the same. Both of them used government-subsidized student loans to continue their education. It took them 9 years after graduation to pay off these loans. Therefore, it is not surprising that Obama once owned a cheap car.

President Obama’s first car cost only $900

“I bought my first car for $900. I remember it had a big hole in the floor, I could even see the road underneath,” shared President Obama.

“My family’s financial situation only became stable in recent years. Before that, we worried about paying the bills every month, rising gas prices… I am someone who grew up in the middle class with real experiences of financial worries. This is in stark contrast to my Republican competitor…”

As a student, Obama had to rely on government-subsidized loans

Obama seems to be referencing heavyweight Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Being the son of the Governor of Michigan, Romney grew up in a wealthy and powerful family. He attended prestigious universities and achieved great success in his business career. If he becomes President, he will be one of the top four richest U.S. Presidents with a net worth of at least $200 million.

It’s safe to say that Mitt Romney has never had a car that cost $900, and he has also never faced financial difficulties like Obama. Therefore, this candidate is lagging behind in understanding the people compared to the incumbent President.
