Recently, Lynk & Co has officially announced the launch of its cars in the Vietnamese market at 11:11 am on November 11th, 2023.
Prior to that, on August 5th, the official distributor of Lynk & Co cars in Vietnam, GreenLynk Automotives, had signed a contract to import and distribute these Chinese models.
Lynk & Co is a sub-brand of the Geely group, established in 2016. In international markets, the brand offers 8 models including 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 08, and 09.
Among them, there are 6 SUV models: 01, 02, 05, 06, 08, and 09, with the 02 model also having a hatchback version. In addition, the 03 is a sedan while the 04 is an electric motorcycle.
Most of the Lynk & Co models are designed with a minimalist and modern approach. The cars share the same platform as Volvo luxury cars.
According to some sources, Lynk & Co will introduce the following models to the Vietnamese market: 01, 03, 05, and 09.
Among the products that Lynk & Co is preparing to introduce in Vietnam, the 01 model is positioned in the C-segment SUV/CUV, competing with Mazda CX-5, Hyundai Tucson, and Honda CR-V.
The Lynk & Co 01 is based on the Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) platform shared with the Volvo XC40.
It is not clear which transmission options the car will be equipped with in Vietnam. In foreign markets, the car has three engine options.
The first is a 2.0L 4-cylinder gasoline engine with a maximum power output of 215 horsepower and a peak torque of 325 Nm. The engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The second option is a hybrid powertrain with a 1.5L 3-cylinder gasoline engine, producing a maximum power output of 150 horsepower, combined with an electric motor and a 3-speed DHT Pro transmission. The hybrid version of this model is called EM-F, with a total power output of 194 horsepower and a peak torque of 345 Nm. The average fuel consumption of the hybrid version is 4.88 liters/100 km.
Finally, there is a plug-in hybrid powertrain which also uses the same 1.5L gasoline engine, but with a total power output of 257 horsepower and a peak torque of 425 Nm. The average fuel consumption of the plug-in hybrid version, called EM-P, is 1.2 liters/100 km. Thanks to its 17.7 kWh battery pack, the car can run 70 km without using the gasoline engine.
The Lynk & Co 03 is the first sedan model from Lynk & Co, introduced in 2018. The car is positioned in the C-segment and competes with Honda Civic, Mazda3, and Toyota Corolla Altis.
Regarding the powertrain, the Lynk & Co 03 also has 3 engine options. The first is a 2.0L 4-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine from Volvo, with a maximum power output of 254 horsepower and a peak torque of 350 Nm. The engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The second option is the same engine as above, but with increased power output to 265 horsepower and 380 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and a 4-wheel drive system.
The third option is a hybrid powertrain with a 1.5L 3-cylinder gasoline engine, an electric motor, a 1.82 kWh ternary lithium battery, and a 3-speed DHT Pro transmission. This version has a total power output of 245 horsepower and a peak torque of 545 Nm, while consuming an average of 4.5 liters of gasoline per 100 km.
According to the manufacturer, the Lynk & Co 05 is a coupe SUV, with a design similar to the 01 model. In the domestic market, the Lynk & Co 05 is available in 3 versions: 05, 05+, and 05 EM-P (plug-in hybrid version).
Providing power for the Lynk & Co 05 are also 3 engine options. The first is the Drive-E 2.0TD T5 engine with a maximum power output of 251 horsepower and a peak torque of 350 Nm, paired with an 8-speed Aisin automatic transmission.
The second option is the turbocharged Drive-E series 2.0TD T5 Evo engine, with a maximum power output of 265 horsepower and a peak torque of 380 Nm. This engine is equipped on the Lynk & Co 05+.
Finally, the Lynk & Co 05 EM-P will be equipped with a plug-in hybrid powertrain consisting of a 1.5T engine, an electric motor, and a lithium-ion battery. This powertrain offers a maximum power output of 148 horsepower and a 3-stage nickel-cobalt-manganese energy storage device.
The Lynk & Co 09 is the flagship model of the Lynk & Co brand. It can be considered as the “twin brother” of the Volvo XC90, as both models share the Scalable Premium Architecture (SPA) platform. The car has dimensions of 5,042 x 1,977 x 1,780 mm (LxWxH) and a wheelbase of 2,984 mm.
In foreign markets, the Lynk & Co 09 is available with 3 engine options.
The first is a mild hybrid powertrain with a 2.0L turbocharged gasoline engine, an 8-speed automatic transmission, and a 48V electrical system, producing a maximum power output of 245 horsepower and a peak torque of 350 Nm.
The second option is a plug-in hybrid powertrain with the same gasoline engine as above, 2 electric motors, and a 3-speed DHT transmission. This powertrain offers a total power output of 431 horsepower and a peak torque of 658 Nm.
Finally, the Lynk & Co 09 EM-P Voyage Edition will be equipped with a powerful plug-in hybrid powertrain with 512 horsepower and 844 Nm of torque. Its 18.83 kWh battery pack allows the car to travel 60 km without consuming any gasoline.
The main competitors of the Lynk & Co 09 in Vietnam will be Hyundai Palisade and Volkswagen Teramont.
Therefore, after Beijing, Hongqi, MG, Wuling, and Haval, Lynk & Co is the next Chinese car brand to enter the Vietnamese market. In early next year, the domestic car market may welcome other “newcomers” from “neighbors” such as OMODA and JAECOO from Chery.
