After being renovated, the 64-year-old classic car now possesses a unique appearance while still preserving its core classic values.
On July 30, interior designer Thai Cong uploaded a video on his personal YouTube channel receiving the handover of an MGA 1600 car that has been restored after more than 6 decades.
The German-Vietnamese interior designer stated that the team responsible for “revamping” his MGA 1600 expected the refurbishment process to take only 1.5 months, but in reality, it took nearly 3 months.
After being renovated, the MGA 1600 now possesses a unique appearance while still preserving its core classic values. The classic white exterior of the car has been replaced with Bentley’s Extreme Silver Metallic paint. The distinctive feature of the Extreme Silver Metallic paint is that depending on the viewing angle and light intensity, the color will slightly change and shine with a beautiful and eye-catching metallic sheen. The team responsible for the renovation shared that in order to make the paint shine the brightest on the vintage MGA 1600, the craftsmen meticulously prepared the entire surface, then applied 3 layers of paint including anti-rust primer, base coat, and top coat.
Thai Cong also decided to remove many original details of the car, such as the trim strips on the front and rear bumpers. The rear of the car now features two large symmetric stainless steel panels to fill the gap after removing the trim strips.
Furthermore, the original chrome lines on this MGA 1600 have been removed and replaced with chrome strips that are curved according to the car’s design, this detail took 2 weeks of work.
As an interior designer, Thai Cong pays great attention to the details inside the car cabin. Therefore, he requested to reupholster the entire interior with premium brown coffee-colored leather. In addition, the car is equipped with an added armrest integrated with wireless charging. The car has an 8-speaker Burmester audio system – a high-end audio system commonly found in luxury cars from Mercedes and Porsche. Moreover, the MGA 1600 is also equipped with a vintage-style entertainment screen, a storage compartment, and an electric power-assisted steering wheel.
Under the hood, the car still retains the engine block produced in the 1960s but has been repainted and replaced with damaged parts. The vintage car is powered by a 4-cylinder in-line engine with a displacement of 1,622cc, producing 90 horsepower. The maximum speed that this car can reach is about 169 km/h and it has the ability to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 12.8 seconds.
According to the shared information from the responsible party, in order to keep the MGA 1600 as original as possible, a lot of effort was put into collecting “genuine disassembled car parts”. For a car born in 1958, this process was not easy at all.
