In Thai Binh, there are only about a dozen vintage Vespa riders, and Nguyen Duy Hoa (hairdressing maestro: Hoa Mascolo) is one of them.

The owner of this self-named hair salon currently owns three vintage cars, including two 1953 Vespa scooters and a 1963 Lambretta – Vespa’s rival.

Over a decade ago, when luxury and expensive hobbies were still hesitant, Hoa Mascolo boldly spent about $1,000 (over 20 million VND) to satisfy his passion. This amount is the result of over 5 years of savings and dedication to his hairdressing career. Hoa Mascolo still jokingly says that he “does hair to play with his motorcycles.”

Falling in love with vintage Vespas since his wedding day, to this day, Hoa Mascolo still admires the soft curves on the body of Vespa. Along with that, Hoa Mascolo is fascinated by Vespa because when he controls it, the shifting is smooth.

For over 10 years since he welcomed two Vespas into his collection, Hoa Mascolo has been “faithful” in using them every day, even though they have made him laugh and cry a few times.

Specifically, on one occasion, while he was cruising around the street, the Vespa’s exhaust fell off, making a loud noise that drew everyone’s attention to him.

Sharing with Xe Giao Thong, he said: “Anyone who has an interest in art or fashion should play with Vespa because it is very…romantic. When playing with Vespa, you should keep the original ‘zing’ color, no need for modifications.

Vespa is very “easy-going”, just regularly check and maintain the clutch, air, and overall condition, the vehicle will run smoothly and ensure the owner’s safety.”

Since he started collecting vintage Vespas, Hoa Mascolo has to spend about 5-7 million VND for each maintenance.

His collection of vintage Vespas, if transferred to another owner, would be worth around 3,000 – 4,000 USD.

“But I have no intention of selling them because I have fallen in love with them,” he emphasized.

In addition to Vespa, this guy also owns a charming Lambretta

For many people, Lambretta is an unfamiliar name, but the majority of those in their 70s and earlier see it as an unforgettable memory. Together with Vespa, Lambretta is a famous Italian scooter brand in the 1950s-1960s.

Unfortunately, Lambretta’s factory in Italy had to stop production in 1972 and licensed many motorcycle manufacturers around the world, from India to America.
