Mercedes-Benz has recently built its first ultra-fast charging station in Sandy Springs, Georgia, USA.
These standard charging stations can serve all types and brands of vehicles, not just Mercedes-Benz customers. Therefore, these charging stations appear in the data of all third-party charging map applications.
The company stated that the design of the Mercedes-Benz charging network is compatible with the North American electric vehicle charging network, which was recently announced by Mercedes-Benz and 6 other electric vehicle manufacturers, directly competing with Tesla’s fast-charging network.
This high-power electric vehicle charging network is also “an important additional component in the overall electrification strategy of the company”.
According to Mercedes-Benz, depending on the deployment area, the company’s individual charging stations will provide charging power up to 400 kW and be connected to electric vehicles with CCS1, CCS2, NACS, or GB/T connectors.
With this fast charging power, electric vehicles can achieve from 10 to 80% battery capacity in less than 20 minutes.
For driver convenience, the stations will provide refreshments, snacks, and restrooms. The charging stations are equipped with canopies, monitoring cameras, and smart light columns with LED elements that update the charging status of electric vehicles.
For Mercedes-Benz customers, they can use the charging stations through the Mercedes me Charge application. The application allows users to remotely reserve charging ports during specific time slots and receive automatic billing details for the charged vehicle.
At certain charging stations, premium Mercedes-Benz customers will have access to exclusive lounges and additional convenient services. New Mercedes-EQ electric vehicle owners will receive 2 years of free charging, while current owners will also receive 6 months of free charging at this new charging network.
Mercedes-Benz proudly announced that its charging stations use 100% renewable energy with direct green electricity supply contracts or other renewable energy certificates (RECs) for the charging stations, ensuring carbon-free charging (electricity generated without fossil fuels).
In the future, the German automaker pledges to expand this premium charging station model to various other regions, potentially including Vietnam.
Currently, Mercedes-Benz has only built charging stations at 5-star resorts. As electric vehicles become more popular and a choice of many, premium charging stations like those in the United States could entirely be present in Vietnam.
