“We can’t disclose anything about the technical specifications or performance at this time. But this powertrain will use Toyota-sourced batteries [and electrical components] combined with a boxer engine,” revealed Subaru of America COO Jeff Walters.
Subaru and Toyota have been collaborating with each other for some time, with previous joint projects being the 86 and BRZ, Crosstrek Hybrid, and more recently the second-generation BRZ and GR86 as well as the bZ4X and Solterra pair. And the 2025 Subaru Forester hybrid will be the next collaboration project between the two carmakers.
Subaru introduced the sixth generation Forester at the LA Auto Show 2023, with a larger body, a stiffer structure, smarter EyeSight ADAS system, and a redesigned exterior making the Subaru crossover resemble the Ford Explorer more.
Inside, the all-new Forester features an infotainment system with a prominent vertically positioned touchscreen on the dashboard with fewer physical control buttons. The base version uses a 7-inch screen, while higher-end versions use an 11.6-inch screen, supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
Notably, the new 2024 Forester is still equipped with analog gauges similar to the predecessor model, instead of using a completely digital gauge cluster. The three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel integrates various control buttons.
However, all 2024 Forester models come with a panoramic sunroof and a power-operated tailgate activated by a foot sensor.
At launch, the new Forester for the US market is equipped with a naturally aspirated 2.5L boxer 4-cylinder engine. This engine produces a maximum power output of 180 horsepower, a decrease of 2 horsepower, but the maximum torque increases from 239 Nm to 241 Nm.
