SUV Sales in November 2023: Honda CR-V Continues to Lead the C-segment with Growth, Mazda CX-5 Declines

Despite a decrease in sales, the Mazda CX-5 continues to be the best-selling SUV in the compact C-segment in November 2023.

In November 2023, most of the compact SUV models in the C segment experienced growth, with Ford Territory leading the pack. However, there were also some models that saw a decline in sales, such as the “king of the segment” Mazda CX-5. Interestingly, the rankings of the SUV models in the C segment remained unchanged compared to October 2023.

SUV C Segment Sales Report November 2023 (units: vehicles)

Mazda CX-5: 1,727 vehicles

In November 2023, it wasn’t a successful month for the Mazda CX-5, with sales of 1,727 vehicles, a decrease of 21.3%. However, the Japanese model still maintains its position as the number one in the C segment SUV market and tops the overall market.


Mazda CX-5

Since its upgraded version was launched in July this year with a “competitive” price ranging from 749 – 999 million VND, the Mazda CX-5 has continuously achieved success and outperformed its competitors in the segment. In addition to its attractive price, the Mazda CX-5 also boasts a sleek exterior design and comprehensive comfort and safety features.

Specifically, this model is equipped with LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, 19-inch wheels, power tailgate, leather upholstery, 10-way power-adjustable driver seat, 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, 10-speaker Bose audio system, dual-zone automatic climate control, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, intelligent brake assist, 360-degree camera, active parking assist, and more.

Under the hood, the Mazda CX-5 offers two engine options: a 2.0L and a 2.5L petrol engine. The vehicle is also equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission and either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, depending on the variant.

Hyundai Tucson: 1,177 vehicles

Similarly to the Mazda CX-5, the Hyundai Tucson has become one of the top choices in the C segment SUV market after a price adjustment in September, ranging from 769 to 899 million VND. In November 2023, Hyundai Tucson achieved sales of 1,177 vehicles, a decrease of 5.7%. With this performance, the Hyundai member continues to rank second in the segment and enters the top 10 best-selling car models in the overall market.

In addition to its competitive price in the segment, the Hyundai Tucson also offers superior wheelbase length, outstanding exterior design, spacious interior, and comprehensive equipment. Notably, this Korean model has three engine options.

The first option is the 2.0L Smartstream petrol engine with a maximum power output of 156 horsepower and a peak torque of 192 Nm, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The second option is the 2.0L Smartstream diesel engine with outputs of 186 horsepower and 416 Nm, coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The third option is the 1.6L turbocharged Smartstream petrol engine, generating a maximum power output of 180 horsepower and a peak torque of 265 Nm, combined with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The vehicle is available in either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, depending on the variant.

Ford Territory: 1,066 vehicles

Ford Territory can be considered the fastest-growing model in the C segment SUV market in November. This model achieved sales of 1,066 vehicles, a staggering increase of 107.3%, and maintained its third position in the segment. This achievement can be partially attributed to the 100% vehicle registration fee waiver program for American vehicles in November 2023, with prices ranging from 82 to 95 million VND, depending on the variant.


Ford Territory

Ford Territory impresses Vietnamese customers with its reputable brand, spacious interior, and comprehensive comfort and safety features. This model features a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and infotainment touchscreen, sporty flat-bottom steering wheel, rotary gear shifter, panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, voice command capability, over-the-air software updates, augmented reality navigation, and smartphone connectivity.

The vehicle is equipped with Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), automatic emergency braking (AEB), traffic jam assist, lane-keeping assist (LKA), forward collision warning, rear cross-traffic alert, parking sensors, 360-degree camera, and active park assist.

Under the hood, Ford Territory is powered by a 1.5L EcoBoost 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, generating a maximum power output of 160 horsepower and a peak torque of 248 Nm. The engine is paired with a 7-speed wet dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Honda CR-V: 539 vehicles

Despite being the most expensive model in the C segment SUV market, with prices ranging from 1.109 to 1.31 billion VND, the Honda CR-V still experienced positive sales growth in November 2023. The vehicle achieved sales of 539 units, an increase of 12.9% compared to the previous month.

In the new generation, the Honda CR-V underwent comprehensive upgrades in terms of design, features, and engines. The vehicle is equipped with remarkable features such as full LED lighting, 18-inch alloy wheels, 8-way power-adjustable driver seat with memory function, 4-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, digital instrument cluster, 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, 12-speaker Bose audio system, automatic climate control, ambient interior lighting, panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging with cooling fan, head-up display, remote start, smart key, and electronic parking brake.

When purchasing the new Honda CR-V, Vietnamese customers have two engine options. The first option is a 1.5L petrol engine with 188 horsepower and 240 Nm of torque, paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and available in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. The second option is a hybrid powertrain, consisting of a 2.0L petrol engine generating 146 horsepower and two electric motors with a combined output of 181 horsepower. In total, the hybrid system delivers 204 horsepower and 335 Nm of torque.


Mitsubishi Outlander: 339 vehicles

Similar to the Honda CR-V, the Mitsubishi Outlander also saw an increase in sales in November 2023. With 339 vehicles sold, this Japanese model experienced a growth of 33.4%. However, the sales ranking of the Mitsubishi Outlander in the C segment SUV market remained unchanged.

In the C segment SUV market, the Mitsubishi Outlander has not received significant upgrades in terms of design or features for a while. The vehicle’s equipment is sufficient for daily use.

The Mitsubishi Outlander features an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment display, Android Auto/Apple CarPlay connectivity, 6-speaker audio system, dual-zone automatic climate control, 8-way power-adjustable driver seat, lane departure warning, blind-spot warning, forward collision warning, rear parking sensors, rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, and more.

Under the hood, the Mitsubishi Outlander is powered by a 2.0L MIVEC 4-cylinder petrol engine, delivering a maximum power output of 145 horsepower and a peak torque of 196 Nm. The engine is mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

The price of the Mitsubishi Outlander currently ranges from 825 to 950 million VND for two variants.

Kia Sportage: 200 vehicles

In contrast to its sibling, the Hyundai Tucson, the Kia Sportage experienced a growth of 17.6% to 200 vehicles in November 2023. However, this Korean model still ranks at the bottom of the C segment SUV market.

Although the Kia Sportage has been adjusted, its price has not been sufficiently attractive, ranging from 799 million to 1.019 billion VND. However, this Korean model provides multiple options for Vietnamese customers with various variants and engines.

Similar to the Hyundai Tucson, the Kia Sportage also offers three engine options. The first option is a 1.6L petrol engine with a maximum power output of 178 horsepower and a peak torque of 265 Nm, coupled with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT) and an all-wheel drive (AWD) system. The second option is a 2.0L diesel engine with a maximum power output of 184 horsepower and a peak torque of 416 Nm, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The third option is a 2.0L petrol engine with equivalent outputs of 154 horsepower and 192 Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.

In addition, the vehicle is equipped with features such as paddle shifters, a concaved 12.3-inch instrument cluster and infotainment touchscreen, push-button start, power-adjustable seats, wireless phone charging with cooling fan, mood lighting, adjustable central cup holders, and more.
