Tesla China has sold 82,432 cars produced at the Shanghai Giga factory in November, up 14.31% from October and down 17.81% from the same month last year. Those figures include both domestic sales and exports.
Tesla China does not report monthly figures. Fortunately, the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) does this on a monthly basis, revealing the factory’s operational effectiveness in Shanghai.
Tesla sold 82,432 units in November in this populous market, up 14% from the previous month
Chinese customers have purchased over 80,000 Tesla vehicles, with them eagerly awaiting the delivery date of the Tesla Cybertruck, an important model in the company’s sales figures.
For Tesla China, this is the expected growth after two months of decline due to a lot of pressure on the Shanghai factory. In September, they had to change tools and adjust the production line for the upgraded 2024 Model 3 and the China-exclusive Model Y.
Furthermore, dozens of midsize electric sedans produced by local automakers were launched last year to compete with the Model 3, such as the new Deepal SL03, Huawei Luxeed S7, and the new BYD Seal.
As of 2023, Tesla has sold 853,603 cars produced by China, up 30% compared to the same period last year. The factory’s production capacity is 950,000 electric vehicles per year, and it currently only assembles the Model 3 sedan and the Model Y SUV.
Despite the price war in China, Tesla has remained confident in recent months. In September, there was information revealing that the updated Highland Model 3 was more expensive than the previous version by 12%. However, most of the new Model 3 products are now exported outside of China, and Tesla’s sales in China rely heavily on the Model Y SUV.
In November, Tesla increased their vehicle prices slightly. On November 9, the new Model 3 Long Range and Model Y AWD Long Range were increased by 1,500 yuan ($210) and 2,500 yuan ($350) respectively. On November 14, the Model 3 RWD and Model Y RWD were increased by 1,500 yuan and 2,500 yuan respectively. On November 21, the Model Y AWD Long Range had an additional increase of 2,000 yuan.
The prices of the Model 3 sedan and Model Y SUV are nearly equal in China since the introduction of the 2024 Model 3 in September with a price increase of over 12% compared to the previous version.
