Just like the Cadillac “The Beast” is often associated with the image of the US President, the luxury limousine that transports Chinese President Xi Jinping on his overseas trips is the Hongqi N701.
This is a large sedan created by the Chinese brand Hongqi specifically for the high-ranking leaders of the country. According to reports, the Hongqi N701 is developed based on the L5 model with an extremely limited quantity, used for serving official tasks of the state.
During the recent U.S.-China summit a few days ago, President Joe Biden had a conversation with his counterpart, Xi Jinping. At the end of the meeting, President Biden expressed admiration for President Xi’s high-end limousine, calling it a “beautiful car.” After that, President Xi briefly introduced and invited the U.S. leader to admire the interior space of this luxurious vehicle.
Biden continued to say that the Hongqi N701 is like his own Cadillac, known as “The Beast.” Due to the importance of these two vehicles, most of the details are not disclosed. According to some leaked information, The Beast is equipped with a turbocharged Duramax 6.6L diesel engine, producing 300 horsepower. President Xi’s presidential limousine is said to have a turbocharged V12 6.0L engine with a power output of 408 horsepower.
Although both vehicles have extremely powerful engines, neither of them can accelerate quickly and consume a lot of fuel due to their thick steel armor and modern safety support systems. According to Carscoops, The Beast has a weight ranging from 6.8 to 9 tons. The weight of the Hongqi N701 is predicted to be similar, as the L5 platform alone weighs no less than 3 tons.
