Motorcycle racers looking for new racing adventures might consider the Extreme Bike Tours, the first motorcycle race held outside of Asia by Extreme Bike Tours in Cuba in 2016.
This will be the first motorcycle race outside Asia since the establishment of Extreme Bike Tours by motorcycle enthusiast Zander Combe in 2011.
Running until March 6, 2016, the race will bring together about 10 racers with “two-wheeled warriors” such as Harley-Davidson, Suzuki V-Strom, and BMW 800.
After normalizing relations with the United States, this is a great opportunity for racers to explore colonial buildings, cigar factories, salsa music clubs, and witness classic motorcycles from the 1950s.
The director of Extreme Bike Tours, Zander, shared: “In about 5 years, this place will become Disneyland and quickly change as tourists choose it as an ideal destination. That’s why I want to come here while it’s still untouched.”
Extreme Bike Tours groups will visit suburban villages, the Bay of Pigs Museum, the Mausoleum of Marx, as well as those attending can choose to drive to Guantanamo.
The race will start in Havana, a great tourist destination for both racers and tourists, as they can witness the vibrant colors of Cuba, Spanish colonial architecture, or even visit the home of writer Ernest Hemingway and the Revolution Square.
Racers will head straight to the coast to reach the National Park in Las Terazzas. Then go back to Havana, racers continue the journey to the heritage city of Trinidad. From here, the race continues to Santiago de Cuba and Santa Clara before returning to Havana.
With a 13-day race, participants must race from 4 hours to 6 hours a day, and only racers with a license and cyclists or new support vehicles can participate in the race.
Each racer will spend 132 million VND and each accompanying fan will have to spend 94 million VND for the trip, including accommodation, 6 dinners, 3 lunches, fuel costs, and car rental.
Extreme Bike Tours has organized numerous major races in the Himalayas, Tibet, Bhutan, Rajasthan, South India, and Mongolia. Zander said he will also organize a race in Sri Lanka in July and August 2016.
A motorcycle collector and member of the organization said, “Our program is called Extreme Bike Tours because of the places we go, not how we go. Any confident and licensed racer can participate. It’s about conquering the race points, not about how to ride and kill yourself.”
