1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé – 143,000,000 USD
One of two 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupés just sold for $143 million. That’s nearly $100 million more than the previous record.
This SLR is based on the W196R Grand Prix car that won two World Championships. However, it has a larger 3-liter engine for sports car racing. In 1955, it won the World Sportscar Championship.
1962 Ferrari 250 GTO – 48,405,000 USD
This GTO was sold by RM Sotheby’s in late August 2018. It is one of only three GTOs ever built, and it has raced extensively worldwide, winning numerous awards. Some of its victories include the 1962 Italian GT Championship and class wins at the 1963 and ’64 Targo Florio.
The GTO has also been regularly maintained by Scaglietti, both under the hood and in terms of bodywork. That has converted it from a Series I to a much rarer Series II.
1962 Ferrari 250 GTO Berlinetta – 38,115,000 USD
This car uses a V12 Colombo V13 3-liter engine that produces only around 300 horsepower. It is the 19th GTO out of 36 ever produced, and it finished second at the 1962 Tour de France race.
Until this car was sold by Bonhams in 2014, it had been owned by the same family for 49 consecutive years.
1956 Ferrari 335S – 35,730,510 USD
This 1956 Ferrari 335S was sold by Artcurial in February 2016. It is only one of four 335S models ever made, making it one of the rarest cars ever produced. It is equipped with a 4.1-liter 400 horsepower V12 engine that can reach a top speed of nearly 300 km/h. That’s a blistering pace even by today’s standards.
1954 Mercedes-Benz W196R – 29,600,000 USD
This 1954 Mercedes-Benz W196R was sold at a Bonhams auction in July 2013. It has tremendous significance for German racing.
The W196R brought Juan Manuel Fangio his second Formula 1 World Championship. The company produced only 14 W196s, and just 10 of them survive today. Currently, Mercedes owns six of them.
1956 Ferrari 290MM – 28,050,000 USD
This 1956 Ferrari 290MM was sold by RM Sotheby’s in December 2015, making it a very nice Christmas present for someone.
It is one of four 290MM models ever produced. This particular car was built specifically for Juan Manuel Fangio. He finished 4th behind the wheel of this car in the 1956 Mille Miglia race, which sounds unremarkable until you consider that 426 cars participated that year. It is equipped with a 3.5-liter V12 engine that produces over 320 horsepower.
1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4*S NART Spider – 27,500,000 USD
This 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4*S NART Spider was sold by RM Sotheby’s in August 2013. It was originally produced as the Spider version of the 275 GTB coupe, at the request of Ferrari’s North American dealer.
Only 10 NART Spiders were ever built, 15 fewer than originally planned. NART stands for North American Racing Team, run by Luigi Chinetti. Beneath its stunning exterior is a V12 engine and a similar-running gearbox as found in the 275 Coupe.
1964 Ferrari 275 GTB/C Speciale – 26,400,000 USD
This 1964 Ferrari 275 GTB/C Speciale was sold by RM Sotheby’s in August 2014. It may not have as high a value, but it’s actually rarer than its 250 GTO sibling. According to EVO, this Speciale has a super-thin alloy body.
It is not only the first of three 275 GTB/C Specials ever produced, but it is also the first Ferrari to be equipped with the 3.3-liter Columbo V12.

This car was sold by RM Sotheby’s in December 2018. It is the official Ferrari Works car of the 1956 and 1957 seasons. It has completed podium finishes at the Mille Miglia and the Buenos Aires 1000 km. It is truly the last of four 290MMs ever made and one of only three remaining. It has been restored by Ferrari Classiche with the 12 Hours of Sebring 1957 livery.
