Every year, the iSeeCars website publishes research results related to the depreciation and resale value of cars after 5 years of use. This year is no exception.
During the research process, iSeeCars analyzed data from over 1.1 million cars sold in the US market from November 2022 to October 2023. According to iSeeCars, the average depreciation rate of cars in the US market this year is 38.8%, lower than the pre-Covid-19 period.
The iSeeCars research results show that small SUVs tend to retain their value better. The average depreciation rate after 5 years of use for small SUVs is 38%, while the corresponding numbers for midsize SUVs and large SUVs are 42.9% and 51.9% respectively.
According to Karl Brauer, Director of Analysis at iSeeCars, “the larger the SUV, the higher the price and fuel consumption. Large SUVs may be a necessary choice for those who need to carry more passengers and luggage. However, in the used car market, buyers tend to prefer small SUVs that are more fuel-efficient.”
