Recently, Indian motorcycle company TVS has officially entered Vietnam market, starting to sell a range of products including 5 models of scooters and motorcycles through distributor Minh Long Motors.
TVS Motor is currently one of the largest motorcycle manufacturers in India and is ranked 4th in the world in terms of sales volume. TVS Motor has 4 motorcycle manufacturing plants, with 3 located in its home country and the remaining plant in Indonesia.
As a first step to enter the Vietnam market, TVS Motor has not planned to build a factory. Instead, the company has partnered with Minh Long Motor to bring 5 new models of motorcycles to customers. These models include TVS Ntorq 125 scooters, Callisto 110, Callisto 125, TVS Dazz 110 scooters, and TVS Rockz 125 automatic motorcycles.
To enhance competitiveness against competitors, TVS motorcycles will have affordable prices. Specifically, TVS Ntorq 125 scooter has a price range from 32.9 to 35.9 million VND. TVS Callisto 110, Callisto 125 have a price range from 29.5 to 34.9 million VND. The TVS Dazz 110 scooter has a price of 25.9 million VND. And the TVS Rockz 125 motorcycle will have a price of 25.8 million VND. All of these models have a 3-year or 30,000 km warranty, whichever comes first.
Based on the above prices, it can be seen that TVS Rockz motorcycle is expected to be the most accessible to users. The motorcycle will compete with Honda Future (30.5 million VND) and Yamaha Jupiter FI (30 million VND) in the 125cc motorcycle segment.
On the other hand, the Ntorq scooter has many modern technologies and is the most anticipated. The scooter has similar dimensions to the Honda Air Balde (42.8-57.9 million VND) but is much cheaper in price.
The Ntorq is equipped with many modern technologies such as the ability to connect to a phone, allowing the rider to give voice commands, social media notifications, feeding reminders, directions, and trip information (remaining distance, remaining travel time…) through a full LCD screen.
In recent years, Vietnam has always been a large consumer of motorcycles in the world. However, about 80% of the motorcycles sold are from Honda. The remaining motorcycles belong to other brands such as Yamaha, Suzuki, Piaggio, SYM…
TVS Motor Chairman, Mr. J Thangarajan, believes that the Vietnamese market currently has strong competitors such as Honda, Yamaha, but Vietnamese people also need to be open to new things, especially quality products at affordable prices.
TVS did not specify its sales target in Vietnam, but in the future, the company plans to establish a network of 300 dealers, mainly focusing on the southern region. Currently, TVS motorcycles will be imported from Indonesia to Vietnam. If the sales figures are satisfactory, the establishment of a domestic motorcycle assembly plant is entirely possible.
