[VIDEO] VinFast VF 8 achieves 4/5 safety stars after Euro NCAP crash tests

On December 6, Euro NCAP announced the safety test results for VinFast VF 8. The Vietnamese electric vehicle achieved the maximum 4-star rating. However, it’s important to note that VF 8 was tested under the stricter new evaluation criteria of Euro NCAP (effective from 2023), so the rating criteria may differ slightly from previously tested competitors.

The safety test was conducted by Euro NCAP on the top-of-the-line Plus version of the VF 8, which includes all standard safety features and technologies: 11 airbags, including a center airbag for the front seats, an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) with emergency automatic braking (AEB), and lane-keeping assist.

VinFast VF 8 performed very well in the child occupant protection category, scoring 44 out of a maximum of 49 points. Euro NCAP awarded the full score in 2 out of 3 criteria in this category, which are the protection of children in frontal and side impacts (24 out of 24 points) and the child restraint system (12 out of 12 points).

In the safety assist category, VinFast VF 8 also scored close to the maximum points. The automatic emergency braking function performed well in most cases. The lane-keeping assist system functioned stably, including adjusting the vehicle’s trajectory when deviating from the lane and intervening in critical situations.

In the side pole test, the side airbags did not deploy correctly and got trapped. The driver’s knee airbag deployed without optimal positioning, leaving the lower leg area unprotected. The chest protection scored only average for both front seating positions in the barrier test.

Euro NCAP commented that the chassis structure and body of the VF 8 are robust and stable, as the vehicle performed well in the side impact test with a rigid pole (simulating a tree or lamppost) at a speed of 32 km/h. Furthermore, VF 8 scored 14.4 out of 18 points in the safety assist category and 48.6 out of 63 points in the pedestrian protection category.

In March, VinFast VF 8 already achieved the highest safety certification from the Southeast Asian New Car Assessment Programme (ASEAN NCAP).

By the end of this year, VinFast plans to deliver VF 8 vehicles to customers in France, Germany, and the Netherlands. The 4-star safety rating from Euro NCAP is a solid milestone for this electric SUV in its mission to conquer the European market.

So far, VinFast has opened 13 dealerships in Europe, and the dealership network will continue to expand with the official launch of VF 8 in this market.
