At The Quail event in the US, the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO supercar was sold to a car collector for $38.115 million. This is the highest selling price for a car ever auctioned. The previous record sale price was held by the 1954 Mercedes-Benz W196 Formula One car, valued at $29.65 million.
The auctioned Ferrari 250 GTO supercar has the chassis number #3851 GT. This is one of the rarest supercar models that many car collectors want to own. The production of this supercar is limited to only 39 units. Additionally, the 250 GTO is a supercar suitable for both the streets and racetracks, making it highly regarded.
This record-breaking priced supercar was manufactured in the 19th century and has been carefully maintained for at least 49 years, starting from 1965 until now. Produced in September 1962, the Ferrari 250 GTO supercar was later sold to a French racer and finished as the runner-up in the Tour de France race in 1962.
On the Montlhery Autodrome racetrack, this supercar had an accident and was repaired before being sold to racer Paolo Colombo a year later. Before reaching Fabrizio Violati in 1965, the Ferrari 250 GTO was sold twice more. Violati later donated this car to the Maranello Rosso Museum.
Currently, another Ferrari 250 GTO is being offered for sale in Germany, with a price of up to $62.7 million. However, this model still does not have an owner.
