The recent purchase of the world’s largest collection of vintage cars by Jaguar Land Rover has caused quite a sensation. The collection, which belonged to 53-year-old James Hull, a dentist, consists of a total of 543 British-made vintage cars.

It is worth noting that Hull’s collection was sold back in May 2014 for £100 million. Only recently has Jaguar Land Rover been revealed as the new owner. However, the company’s representatives have declined to disclose the amount they paid to acquire the world’s largest vintage car collection.

The collection includes famous vintage cars such as the Jaguar SS100, XK120, and MK X, which were once owned by William Lyons, the co-founder of the British luxury carmaker. Additionally, there are notable cars like the Jaguar C-Type, D-Type, E-Type, and nearly 100 other Jaguars.

In addition to Jaguar cars, Hull’s collection also includes vintage Bentleys and Morris Minors. It features a Mini Traveller owned by Louis Mountbatten, an Austin owned by Prime Minister Winston Churchill, and a Bentley owned by singer Elton John.

All of the cars in Hull’s collection were manufactured from the 1930s. Among them are the valuable Jaguar XKSS and D-Type, worth over £4 million ($6.7 million) in total. There are also numerous vintage camping cars from the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s.

The collection also includes the early Land Rover and Range Rover models in the 4×4 car section. A Sinclair C5, produced in the 1980s, is also part of the collection.

Jaguar Land Rover has stated that they purchased the collection to emphasize their commitment to the British automotive industry’s heritage. The vintage cars in the collection will be used to support the brand promotion campaign in existing and emerging markets.

John Edwards, Managing Director of Special Vehicle Operations at Jaguar Land Rover, said, “We are delighted to have reached an agreement with James Hull to secure the future of this unique collection of Jaguar cars, assembled over many years. Like James, we believe in nurturing the heritage of Jaguar for future generations of car lovers in the UK and around the world.”

James Hull, the car collector, expressed his thoughts on the sale, “I have traveled the world to find the cars for my collection over the years. It is the result of a lifelong passion and dedication. Therefore, my intention was not to seek the highest price for the collection. Instead, I wanted to ensure the future of the collection in the hands of suitable caretakers in my homeland,” he said.

“In recent years, I have come to understand more about the Jaguar Land Rover brand. They have borrowed cars from my collection multiple times for events such as the Mille Miglia and have supported Jaguar in the Chinese market. They are the perfect custodians for my collection in the future. I know that I have placed the collection in safe hands,” Hull added.
